Raiden...IV?

Post by Lili-Xiang »

I've heard of it, but... does anyone have better to say of it than "It's out in
(country location) on the arcades"?

Anyone who believes what they saw at Namco Central about ME is seriously far stupider than he/she looks...

Raiden happens to be one of those game that never changes much, or rather changes very slowly. its already up to 4 now, and they still can't think up of another new weapon than the silly snake laser? shame on you Seibu.

what of it? i despise any game with a half-baked incomplete story. and frankly in raiden, the story is almost non-existence.

All I could think of to point you at was this coverage of the location test some time back.

I like it.

It's straightforward- simple scoring system, some slightly cheapish aimed bullets, some bosses with easy patterns, and an interesting powerup system where you need to stop shooting to allow the power up to come straight to your ship (stressful from level 3 on)

Still can't get past the third stage, but it's a nice old school break from the ketsuis of the world.

Haven't played IV; but if you play III in Double Mode: It has one of the most flexible weapon systems in a shmup, EVAR!

But it does have a story. You see the Red-Orbitrons started infecting the Imperial Military's Armed Destruction Unit. The only two crafts unnaffected were a pair of mysterious red and blue vampire ships that can only be controlled for a short time before destroying the user. Now our hero/heroes is/are in a race against time to destroy the red-orbitrons and rescue planet Ganymede before the vampire crafts drain him/them completely!

Zebra, read again. He didn't say it didn't have a story, he said it had a "half-baked" story. There's a difference. And he's still in the wrong genre if he wants story =P There's what... Radiant Silvergun... and... err... Hmmm... *shrugs*

I know! The controls are perfect! You would swing the wiimote to pause, or swing it slightly different to erase your save data. You could also swing the nunchuk to decide whether to start a new game or quit and go straight to the "Everybody Votes" channel.
Zebra, read again. He didn't say it didn't have a story, he said it had a "half-baked" story.
Well, you should be able to tell from my synonpsis that it's actually a very well thought-out story with alot of depth. I didn't even get into the stuff about the ancient burial ground or the strange semi-erotic relationship between the two pilots.

EDIT: Actually, he said the story is almost non existent. (I had to read it three times just to check.)

I pity the fool. Raiden is awesome, story or no story, and why change when you're on a winner? I think enhancements and 'slow changes' are the best approach for a classic like this, otherwise Seibu would get much fan hate.

Besides, what would you suggest needs changing?

If you want crazy intricate scoring systems go play a Cave game.

Here here. Leave the beautiful simplicity that is Raiden alone (except for bringing back the toothpaste laser in all its glory).

Unless I'm going crazy, on arcade-history.com, Raiden 3 and 4 were made by Taito, and not Seibu.

They were actually made by Moss not Taito - Taito is the game's acting publisher basically and the source of the game's arcade hardware.
