What is this shmup?
About three years ago I played a side-scrolling shmup, which I cannot find now. All I remember from the game was that I am almost positive it was for the N64. One interesting feature of the game was that you could capture enemy ships and use them as wingmen. The only boss I remember from one of the first levels was a worm looking creature who shot a beam out of his eye. If anyone has any idea what this shmup is, I would greatly appreciate knowing. Thanks much!

While N64 is mentioned, this is really making me think about Gaiares on the Megadrive/Genesis. It even has two bits with worms in.

I know of no shmup produced for japan or U.S. fitting that description...Star Solidier was a 3-D shmup for N-64 but I do not remember any worms in the game.
Are you sure it was N64? There weren't that many shmups produced for that system...I can only recall 3 offhand:
Star Soldier
Starfox
Robotron 64
Maybe a few others...but not many.
