Yeah, it is not as elaborate but it has a definite rhythm element. (to EOJ)

Wow, I've had this game for like, a year now, and I have NO IDEA what "child banking" is.

I love Cave, but I rarely like the scoring systems in their games (comboing/chaining = HATE). They're good for playing for survival though.

On topic, though: Yes, buy Mushihime if you can. Or, WHILE you can, I guess I should say.

These dang things arent always the easiest things to get.

I know people complain about the port of it, and whatnot..... but I've never quite understood all that, myself.

The graphics are still OK, I can see my..... uh..... player-bug, and all the bullets just fine, and I know where all the bullet hitboxes are..... so I can play the game just fine without trouble. Therefore, to me, the port is just fine.

I say the same thing about Giga Wing Generations, though Im aware many wouldnt agree with me, heh.....

Now if only I could take down the stupid true-final-boss of Arrange mode......

I WISH I didn't. Then I wouldn't have to worry about ignoring it to enjoy the game. I could just play in blissful ignorance.

Also called the laser counter.

You are arguably missing half of the game, but you're definitely not the only one that plays for survival.

I've had one on my FS list for a few weeks now.

You need an RGB Monitor and some experience playing these games on said monitor. Imagine buying a nice crisp HDTV w/ surround sound, and then wathcing VHS tape on it. It's akin to that.

You're definitely missing out on half the game, but if it's a half that someone doesn't like, then missing it isn't so bad for that person then is it? =) I'm perfectly content to ignore scoring in Mushi, but I wouldn't still be playing DDP at this point if not for score. ESPgaluda would have gotten boring fast as well.

I dont have the patience for (purely) memory-based scoring, which is what most "chaining" systems end up being.

So I just ignore them in games like DDP and whatnot.

Something like Progear or Galuda, which are different from Cave's usual stuff, yeah, THOSE I'll play for score (particularly Progear).

One nice thing about arrange mode is that you can be alot less precise with how you chain and bullshit through some segments. As long as you don't get hit by any bullets or make any donkey mistakes your score won't suffer too much. It's still memorization, and yeah, if you want a really great score you're going to need to really be in the right place at the right time.

Arrange requires absolutely zero button hammering though, which is a lot easier on the hands.

I cannot personally recommend Mushi.

I do not play many Cave or Cave-like shooters...most million bullet shooters are a turn-off to me. I've bought and tried many Cave products and ended up selling all or most of them. However, the game is loved by many shmup enthusiasts whose opinions I respect.

My suggestion to you would be to research it thoroughly (BBoards, YouTube, etc.) and base your decision on that.

I just played some Mushi last night...such a fun game. :D You really have to love level 3. Its one of the best, most memorable shmup levels I know of.

Not that I need to tell you that because i'm sure you already bought it and know exactly what I mean. 8)

I love this game for it's arrange mode. Auto bombing means I can take risks I would never dare without this feature :D
Makes it a lot more fun to play, and is a good training for your manic dodge skills.

To stay on topic: Get this game if you can. I have the PS2 version, and I've never thought the graphics look bad or anything.

The game is fun if you aren't that serious about score. Maniac/Ultra/Arrange mode scoring in the game is garbage, Ultra mode should have had normal mode's scoring.

i know a lot of people find it hard to admit that it's broken. when the top maniac score with an autofire circuit is 1.6 billllllllion points higher than the best score on a normal set-up, it's fair to say that there's a big issue. but hey, cave scrapped a lot of that shit for the sequel, and it's a major plus.

Futari is definitely better for people wanting to score attack. However, I don't like EITHER game for scoring (or rather, there are too many other games I'd rather play for score), and as GaijinPunch once said, giant bugs > dinosaurs -_^

Wow
I have just read this thread and now I hate Mushihimesama  I am just going to go back and play my ancient easy shoot em ups

OR

I will just act as if I did not read these post and continue to play my games as dumb and ignorant. I am failure anyways may as well play games in failure fashion  Why do I even bother. Maybe it is best I just leave these forum as I cannot even play and understand these games. I play shooting game my whole life and in just one year I learn that I play them wrong. I try to correct my self but then I do not have fun. When I post score it is joke and then when I try to survive then I am joke because I do not play the game the way it is to be played and I miss half the game. I am just dumb failure piece of shit.

Really just depends on the game, really, as far as scoring goes.

Yes, Mushihime is astonishingly difficult, so you cant expect to just kick it's ass real easy.

And as much as I love Cave, I wouldnt worry too much about their scoring systems, if I were you. If you're enjoying the game as it is normally, well, just dont worry about it. In the end (aside from some stuff in Arrange, which is the only mode I'll try and score in, really), Mushi is all just more chaining (What is it with Cave and chaining??).

I prefer something a bit different for score.... I love Shikigami no Shiro 2 (and likely 3) and it's scoring system, I play that exclusively for score. And Giga Wing as well, though cant score very high yet. And Progear.

Other than that, though, I dont do Cave's games for score, usually. Death Label in DOJ is the only other exception.

Dont worry about it so much, just have some fun with them, is all you should concern yourself with.

Button mashing in the other modes does what exactly?

Never been too clear on that part (I just hold the auto-fire down)

Original mode does not require all the button mashing and what not does it? I always thought original mode was pretty bare bones, and is the reason why I enjoyed it. Is the score system as intense as the maniac and ultra modes? I could never find a concrete answer as most of the strat talk was about maniac and ultra.

Oh and don't worry about it too much Sonic R, who cares if you can score a zillion points or not.

I try not to worry about it too much, I have more fun when I do not try for achieving high scores Thanks :)

I never know about Mushi score system until this thread and I think I'll forget about it in this thread and just have fun playing the way I have always play it.

It's actually on the easy spectrum on the Cave Bell Curve (other than Ultimate, obviously).

Original requires no pounding. Read EOJ's strategy guide for an in depth explanation. Basically when you get get an option, you can shoot larger enemies with the laser from this option and build up a laser counter. If you have 4 options, you can build up four seperate laser counters on a large enemy. They count down rapidly once you quit hitting them, like the normal counter. However, every time you hit them w/ your rapid fire (pounding on C jacks this up... not holding it) each laser counter is added to your overall counter. 4 laser counters at 250 each = 1000 to main counter each tap of C.

Watch the super play DVD for an explanation (and video of his hands in the outtakes). Level 2 Nanabush (those dandy lion looking things that open up) are a prime example. Stay on top so they're invincible. Jack up the laser counters, then start hammering the C-button. In the super play, he gets to the main counter to 20,000+ on the first one if memory serves.

Original mode is basically like any old Toaplan shooter -- you can kill bad guys, pick up gems, and milk some bosses that shoot destructible objects. And that's it! Kind of liberating really.
sikraiken wrote:Maniac/Ultra/Arrange mode scoring in the game is garbage, Ultra mode should have had normal mode's scoring.
I don't like Maniac/Ultra scoring either (it feels really hard to get repeatable results and is very frustrating), but I disagree that arrange is crap. I combines DOJ like chaining with a strong point-blanking element, and as Gaijin Punch mentioned before there is absolutely zero tapping.

Instead you have two different types of shot: A light colored one (like in any of the arcade modes) and a darker one activated by holding the main shot button (A.) The darker shot will drive your multiplier up more quickly but slows you down making it tough to capitalize on enemies invincibility frames.

It's really great because you have to find the pefect mix of destroying enemies/blanking enemies without clearing the screen too quickly and losing some of your chain, while at the same time deftly switching from A to C in order to move quickly around the play area.

Well, I ordered this game a few days ago, so hopefully i'll get it soon. They only had like two on Ebay.

So far, the only game I haven't liked of Cave's to some degree is DOJ.

Hey, and to Sonic R, don't sweat it, I suck at these games too man.

The other night, I ALMOST made it to stage 6 on Bakraid with one credit. To ME, that's a big deal. To most, that's probably laughable. Getting to stage 4 on Progear with one credit was also a victory for me.
I'm not that hot at these things, but I love them.

Like most people, the PS2 version is your only option. Buy it. I don't know how to make the graphics look better though.. you probably can't, even with a HDTV.

Unless you can justify purchasing the PCB, along with a supergun, and the PCB, well, that's something which is the price of a PS3 and a couple of games.
