How can you tell what's going on on such a little screen?

Bullet GBA was mentioned here before and I don't remember this being brought up. Older handhelds had crappy screens, but they still came out with killer shmups like Nemesis and the GG Aleste games because they were designed around the handhelds. Now handhelds are better designed and more powerful than before and they still get treated like you can't tell what's going on, despite how they are designed to lack blur and provide excellent visibility.CMoon wrote:How can you tell what's going on on such a little screen?

If you hold your handheld at the same distance your monitor/tv is located, then yes, it's hard to see what's going on. It's designed to be held closer to the eye, thus covering a big field of your vision.CMoon wrote:How can you tell what's going on on such a little screen?
The only part I don't like about BulletGBA is the lack of precision. You can't move a pixel or two, because the thing you control moves too damn fast
It's a nice engine though, I would consider turning it into a full game if something similar existed for the DS.

Man... I bought a g6 Flash card and a GB Micro so I could play BulletGBA. It is amazing, honestly. The micro in tate mode is no problem, the game runs flawlessly on the GBA and looks great.
I guess you could complain about the tiny screen but I just learned to look for the bigger gaps between bullets.
I wish I had a better vocabulary to convey how grand this game is on the micro, but alas I am pretty much verbally inept. Please play this game and enjoy it's simple genius.

So.... what exactly is necessary to play this?
It looks neat, but I dunno anything about "flash carts" or whatever that is....
I'd love to try this, and something like this would be great when Im on the go, or standing in line at a convention.....
EDIT:
Tried it (still playing) with a GBA emulator.
Holy HECK this game is nuts.
Whoever came up with "BulletMorph" mode is obviously a crazed lunatic.
This is a great find, indeed.
Gotta get me a portable version for my DS.

BulletMorph is by Kenta Cho. There's a demo applet there. It's an interesting idea but I don't think it really works... the patterns just end up getting messy.

That doesn't mean it would be any less coolFrederikJurk wrote:Or just go ahead and emulate it. I mean, its freeware, so it´s perfectly legal.Pixel_Outlaw wrote:I'm sure it would be cool plugged into a GBA Player and played on the TV.
A GB Player is how I play all my GBA games (I don't actually own a GBA unit). It's great for Gradius Galaxies.

Yeah I consider the GBA player WELL worth the money. Games like castlevania Circle of the moon are easier to see. That game is so hard to see if you are playing in shadow. If you REALLY want a good time you can buy either the Pelican or Hori controllers that mimic the snes game pad. The player offers 3 screen filters and 2 resolution steeings. I really like mine I would like to play this game on the TV.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Download version 5.0.... it's more worth a while, has even boss theme at end of each shooting level, it feels like fighting TLB!
