I haven't bought a PS3 or a Xbox 360 yet, but i'm getting ready to buy my first of two(the Xbox).
I was wondering if either system is able to be modded yet.
Also, i'm wondering if a mod chip will be necessary to run MAME/other emulators on either of these systems?

Modding a nextgen console is a risky business. XB360's are very delicate things and go wrong, everyone I know is at least on the 3rd or 4th machine by now. MS will fix your machine for free, but only if its standard spec. Also, there is an online deterrant to running a modchip on your xbox since if it is detected you can never go online again with that machine.
PS3, you can download a Linux package and run MAME from that, but I have on idea how good it works.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
