I've just played it for the first time and got to the third boss dying once.
Does it get really hard at later levels or it's pretty easy to 1cc?

R-type LEO is probably the second easiest Irem game to 1CC, the first being Lethal Thunder.

Definitely the easiest of the R-Types (sans all the obscure R-Type 1 ports that I've never played).
