If Salamander/Lifeforce is a part of the series, then so is Parodius and Scramble.... No wait!

Well it WAS in Gradius Advance's opening, yet Parodius was not, so I'm guessing Sala is a Gradius game.

Nothing on Play-Asia except Konami, Konami, and more Konami, and Last Hope...

NSCX gave me Anubis (wow 25 bucks for an Anubis Special), Gradius, and Last Hope again...

Maybe Konami doesn't want to go through with a 6 now because of Last Hope? Just pitchin ideas here...

Well, Scramble is also according to Konami, but I'll always view it as a separate game.
Life Force is more like a side-story.

Kai is a remake of Gradius 2 MSX, albeit it with some tweaks and enough differences to make it feel like a new game ( don't know nearly enough about the differences though, maybe someone does).

Yeah, I played it last week. Pretty good, but not as good as Ketsui 2. Ketsui 2 is a lot more fun to play in Japan.
could you tell me about it? What's new? More stages? still 2P? Better or worse
OST? Still have those lovely Boss parade fights?

And that doesn´t even mention Gradius LCD (which sucks balls but is nice as a collector´s item I guess) and the Gradius Board game (now that is something I´d like to play with the family...they probably wouldn´t though :().

If you watch the opening to Gradius Galaxies/Generation/Advance, Scramble is included in the opening scene along with prior games in the series. And ew, someone likes Scramble?

So it might not be up to Gradius' standards and surely not as good as it, but it WAS a fantastic game for it's time. I remember enjoying the MSX incarnation many years later even.

There was scramble for MSX? Aren't you thinking of Super Cobra?

I don't forget the MSX gradii (of course), is just that we are talking about the "main" series, which is usually regarded as being I, II, III, IV, Gaiden and V.

Ummm.. that's a contradiction in terms.

The main series is Gradius, Gradius II Gofer No Yabou, Gradius III Densetsu Kara Shinwa E, Gradius IV Fukkatsu and Gradius V. Everything else is gaiden.

Yeah , it makes sense. Even when I was typing that reply, it came to my mind "Erm.. I think maybe Gaiden shouldn't be here".

But Gaiden is usually taken when talking about the Gradius series, maybe because it was by far the best game in the series before Gradius V came out. (And yet I believe many people still consider it better than V)

"Gaiden" it simply the term for "not a part of the main series" anyways, or did I understand something wrong?

In that case, what is "Ninja Gaiden" supposed to mean?

I still think the music is the best. "Requiem for Revengers" is my favourite, followed by the boss rush music.

It's a Ninja who isn't a real ninja at all.

Gaiden means Side-story, if I am not mistaken.

I've learned that gaiden also means 'plus'. I'm inclined to think that is the more likely usage.

A title that's supposed to be easier for Westerners to pronounce than the game's name in Japan, "Ninja Ryukenden."

I've heard it refers to a sequel or a second part of a series. Still believe it mean side-story tho.

Wikipedia says:
The Japanese word Gaiden (外伝, often translated as "side-story" or "tale") is used to refer to an anecdote or supplementary biography of a person. The term Gaiden is commonly used in popular Japanese fiction to refer to a spinoff (canonical or otherwise) of a previously published work that is not officially considered a sequel nor a prequel. However, some "Gaiden" story are retold stories in the perspective a different character, similar to that of a flashback.

Oddly enough, the GG Ninja Gaiden and the recent Xbox and PS3 Ninja Gaidens are called "Ninja Gaiden" in Japan.
