Yes, I forsee the first western ALL of Pink Sweets happening very soon now that we have confirmed the bug details. But more interesting, will be the first legit non-bug western ALL (low rank strategies).Icarus wrote:I reckon that with the amount of stage5 scores already shown on the forum's HS table, a little bit of a push will get people triggering that bug more often on defaults.
The likelihood of people clearing the game without is much lower, but still possible with the right strategies.
Official Pink Sweets -Ibara Sorekara- thread (renamed)
As promised, a demonstration of getting the bug active with the 1mil per Extend setting. I'm using Lace (A) here, and trigger the bug right at the fixed Extend in stage3. Somewhat optimal scoring and Extend generation techniques throughout the run.

The demonstration ends after beating the third boss (dying a bunch as well, to demonstrate the infinite lives thing).
For shits and giggles, I cleared the game with the bug active, as well. Took the better part of an hour, dropped Medals all over the place in st5 and 6. Replay recorded for posterity.

i have to admit, i don't really subscribe to the whole "1CC" culture. there are already tons of pink sweets vids on the net with clears and no bug use. and they're pretty shit scores. clearing the game with no bug and full medals? not a chance.
far more interested in seeing someone score 10-20 mill. that's the real unkown. no videos on the net of that being done whatsoever.

That score has long been beaten, by both Galford (with 9.4mil) and someone else who got 9.7mil and holds the current WR.jpj wrote: Pink Sweets:

What character? Are you assuming a bug-free score or is someone else?normal mode(bug-free version?): 16,538,810 cha
First, this score is from Nov 2006, it's old news. Second, it was done with Lace. Third, it was done by a guy named YOS.K at Hey arcade, NOT Galford (btw Galford only plays at Gamebox Q2). Fourth, it was not recorded to DVD as Hey lacks recording equipment in the cabs.normal mode(definitely bug version): 20,614,480 GAL (DVD score)
Galford's Normal mode high score remains 19.8mil with Shasta. Just look at his web blog, he posts his new scores there whenever he gets them. He doesn't seem to be playing PS anymore anyway, due to the game freezing all the time on him. He says he's moving onto Mushi Futari, and maybe Death Smiles when it's released.
Just before 2.88mil on Stage 3 mid-boss, that is a nice save of the full medals. I also agree with rtw, the recording quality is superb.Icarus wrote:As promised, a demonstration of getting the bug active with the 1mil per Extend setting. There's a lot of milking to be done. The question is: what are they milking?jpj wrote:far more interested in seeing someone score 10-20 mill. that's the real unkown. no videos on the net of that being done whatsoever.
- Bullets? (Bullets don't seem to give nearly enough points to make a few mil.)
- Medal dropping enemies? (So far, only three bosses I've seen generate item dropping enemies.)
- Scratch points? (Certainly not on the level of Psyvariar, however...)
- Tick damage points? (Somewhat explains why Lace scores nearly double that of Meidi&Midi...)
Shame the PCB is still so highly priced. We could do with more Raizing-heads in on this little unsolved mystery. (DEL, I'm looking at you!)

hey icarus, thank you for you videos, much appreciated & enjoyed.

i quite agree! i'd love to see someone pull that one off and learn from it. cause i still suck hard at this game and not picking up the medals feels a bit lame.jpj wrote:far more interested in seeing someone score 10-20 mill. that's the real unkown. no videos on the net of that being done whatsoever.

I must really suck, as it took me quite a bit of playing this weekend to confirm my board had the extend bug. Even when setting extends every 1M, I could get to 5 ships without much hassle, but just when the next variable extend should have popped out, I'd die a stupid death. Also I noticed that when I was at 5 ships, and crossed the 2M mark, it did NOT give me the automatic extend! I was about to quit thinking this was the fix board, but pressed on another couple hours changing ships, changing strategies, until finally it happened. So I guess this is good news, as I doubt my skills would ever get me through to the end without the bug. Setting things back to defaults and trying for the bug will be challenge enough for me, then I'll put this away for awhile.

How is this game? I liked Ibara quite a bit but I know very little on this title.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
ibara is a walk in the park compared to pink sweets. pink sweets is also broken in some important ways so i can get into people saying it's shit. it looks like it was designed by someone who is totally colour blind. it's a bright, happy oversaturated mess. though that is something you'll get used to. guess the cones in your eyes just breakdown after a while.Strider77 wrote:How is this game? the game has 7 stages and it takes for ever to play through it (even if you're not milking all and everything for score). think this is way too many stages and a way too long game. it even has an extended mode which i could imagine anyone ever playing for fun.
play it as intended(?) by getting your rank up and you'll be killed dead by the game many times over. if you not pick up any rank objects then the game stays "tame" for a while, like it still manages to kill me easily but it doesn't get so absurdly difficult in such a short time.
one of the most annoying flaws in the game i think is that when you die you don't instantly hear your deathscream. because your character screams after you're destroyed you are not properly conditioned to what killed you. no pun intended but i think this is a fatal design flaw. i'm very confident that if this was synchronised properly to when you get it would improve the game play of many players.
i actually think that pink sweets may very well be cave's hardest game yet... i can't even credit feed through the game without having to hit continue every few moments on the later stages.
though despite it's flaws and shortcomings i am totally addicted to summer carnival 2006: recca in toyland as i like to call it. the 4 different characters which all have their individual strengths & weaknesses and require different tactics to get through make this to a rather elaborate game. add the score attack mode and you've got a really interesting package.
sadly most videos out on the interwebs are of low rank playthroughs so it looks like a weak, uninspired pushover. so i guess this game is either a hit or a miss depending on the player. it definitely requires more than few credits of play before you can decide that for yourself.

Being a bit of a Raizing fan (though I'm no master of the games, by any means) I just picked this up and I think it's fantastic. I love the risk/reward factor of the Recca style bomb/shield set-up ... especially during boss battles, suprememly satisfying.
When it was first announced/revealed I expected the game to be little more than Ibara with a different colour scheme and toy robots ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing ... but it's nice to find how different it is, and explore a new (it's new to me) way to play.
Somebody mentioned in another thread how the Raizing ranking system only really affects supreme shmuppers and I kind of agree with that ... as a Raizing fan who plays at a fairly casual level, allowing myself one or two credits and simply enjoying a good blast.
I have to admit to being a bit nervous about buying Pink Sweets, based on the love it / hate it reception it got, I'm happy to say I'm in the love it camp

Mr Chong. Its actually a good game with two ways of playing it, either high or low rank.
You'll need to read the Cave STG forum to understand it properly.

i've printed out a strategy guide but i like to get familiar with the first 4 levels or so before reading them usually.ill look at it more in depth at the weekend. no autofire on my cab so from what i've read i'll have to attempt a low rank run. expect to see me in the strategy thread soon!

Mr Chong, you don't need autofire to rank Pink Sweets up to the max. All you need to do is tap both buttons rapidly from the start of Stage 1 to the end of the stage. You'll be on pretty much max rank from then on and you can go about shooting more mini bombs to get more extra lives. Or even activate the invincibility trick (depending on your board & skill).

And on the other side of the coin, a low-rank run roughly translates into a 1LC, as the only real way to manage rank, aside from the usual Raizing techniques of not mashing the buttons, not collecting surplus stuff, and controlling your firing, is to drop Extends. Apparently, letting Extends float off the screen gives the biggest rank decrease.
