I'm too anal for the PSP

Post by 8 1/2 »

It's driving me nuts. I can barely play it. It's too good for me. I feel like I've spent the night with a supermodel, but it was dark and she was drunk... and it's almost morning and I know I better slip out the door before she wakes up and screams in horror. I keep blowing off the screen with a can of compressed air everytime a fleck of dust lands on it, and polishing the d-pad and buttons after each play.

Plus, has anyone noticed how easy it is to get little hair-line scuffs on the back of the casing of the UMD's?

Oh the woes of loving these games too much.

Arrgh! This sounds like it would be a nightmare for me. I want one badly after playing Wipeout Pure but between the much maligned dead pixel issue and the very large, very beautiful, and very vulnerable wide screen and the problems my OCD ass would have, I just cant bear to spring for one. Not yet anyhow. A portable Hot Shots would be pretty cool though. :)

hah i know how you feel but dont worry, it's going to get knocked and banged over the years, its not as if you're gonna resell it anytime soon:)
Only yesterday my friend was running with his psp in his pocket and it fell out onto the concrete! it was a lttle dented on the edges but fuck it.

I have 3 dead pixels on mine already (got in on thursday) but because the res is so high you dont notice them in-game. The only way to see them is on the black loading screen even then you REALLY have to look.
I keep blowing off the screen with a can of compressed air everytime a fleck of dust lands on it,
You kidding, right? :?

Don't worry, in 6 months you'll have knocked her up, the romance will be gone and you'll be the one screaming in horror every morning.

I bought this when I got it:
Image

It's fairly cheap, but it sort of makes it like a GBASP for carrying purposes. I can't bring myself to stuff it down inside that spandex sox the system comes with. With this thing, I can at least put it in the front pouch on a backpack and not worry too much. It just screws into the two little screw holes on the top of the sytem. There's a thin foam lining so it protects against bumps.

And no, I'm not kidding about the compressed air. I've been using it on handhelds for a while because if you really look closely there's no way to clean the screen of a Gameboy or NeoGeo Pocket without leaving tiny little scratches. I'll go so far as to take my systems outside just so I can check them in real sunlight for any imperfections. I'll get over it I guess, but it's going to take me six months or so to chill out and get over the $250 price point.

@Jon - Good to see you're still posting here too. I hadn't seen your name until just now. I know you're as obsessive as me, so yeah, it would probably give you the horrors.

Same here too. I actually don't really care about the next generation and I'm saving up money to build my own computer with anyway. (I'm buying a DVD Burner pretty soon, it'll be my first homebrew PC part.)

One time i slept with a PSP and it slipped out the door before i woke up. On my mirror the words "Touching is Bad!" were written in silicon. Oh, my shame.

I'd like to get one of those hard screen shields, but they're not available locally where I live...

I might find a PSP interesting to mess around with for a while (I'm a bit of a mobility junkie, as evidenced by my growing collection of PocketPCs and other portables, with a new notebook PC on the way to boot) but there's nothing out there right now that I need a PSP for, especially since I have a perfectly capable portable digital video player in my PPC. It would take at least 3 or 4 absolutely must-have games (none of the launch titles fit into that category) and $100 off the pricetag before I'd consider getting one. That said, I'd love to get a hold of one to mess around with for a while and compare to some of my other stuff.

I'd get a PSP as soon as NES and SNES emulation becomes available. (Some smart hacker will figure it out.) I'm really hoping for SNES emulation on the PSP because the SNES ports on the GBA are horribly watered down in terms of graphics and sound.

That's exactly where I got it. Obviously ;) I may be too wise for the PSP but I'm still totally dumb.

I've never been much for portable video games, or little "hi-tech" gadgets.
Hell, I don't even have a pager or cell phone.
In fact, the only thing I carry with me thats "hi-tech" is a Bic lighter!!

BTW: I did try out the PSP, and I was impressed with it. The movie quality is very good, and Ridge Racers was really cool, the only down fall would be that after only playing for around 45 minutes, I got a severe cramp in my right hand.
The way you hold the thing...it looks as if you've got arthritis.

I'm with you there TWITCH. I'm rather sick of handhelds myself (Gameboy SP's gathering dust). But the PSP does look sexy....but I've not had the chance to play one yet. :?

I do have a cell phone, but it's an old one. A Motorola StarTAC.

I bought a GBA player for the GC specifically because I don't play handhelds but enjoy a good number of the GBA titles. To be honest, without the GBA player I might have sold off the GC by now.

Those Castlevania games, Metroid, Astroboy, Minish Cap, Gradius Galaxies...there's enough here to make the system worthwhile. But I don't really play handhelds; so I have a bunch of handheld games I only play on my GC!

Now, let's see if they put any incredible exclusives on the PSP and if they make a PSP player.

I don't think so, the classics will always be better than the modren stuff. (Though Xbox was in that Flash movie as a good guy  )
