A megadrive/genesis can be region-modded very easily.

Buy a US Genesis for $10 or less.

Find someone who will do this for you. Should be about a dollar worth of electronic components.

Then, just use a file or knife and shave down the edges of the cartridge slot.

Doesn't the megadrive II lack a rgb av/out?

The Genny 2 doesn't, so I don't think the MD 2 lacks it. If anything, it outputs too strong of a signal, so some resistors must be installed on the R, G, and B lines.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

I was probably confused with a master system 2 and perhaps the megadrive III then?

Genesis 2 outputs RGB fine. 75ohm resistors are required. I've got 100ohms in there at the moment which leaves it a tad darker than necessary.

220uf (or 470uF) capacitors are also required:

There are a few guides out there that do not mention caps: it's either because they can't find 220uF caps that are small enough to fit a scart shell or, more probably, because they have no clue about video encoders and AC coupling.

Why take chances with convertors which are 20 years old now?

If your not up to doing a conversion just send your machine to Raven games in London.

Two switches can be fitted onto the back of the machine, one is for the user to switch between 50hz or 60hz and the other to switch from UK text to Japanese text, this text switch allows you then to play USA/Japanese or UK games on any Sega Megadrive machine (some later UK games though might require a plug in nitro adapter). UK & USA (called Genesis) Sega Megadrive games are the same size, but Japanese games are larger, so the UK & USA machines need the cartridge port widened to except the Japanese games (Japanese machines do not need the cart port widened). The Sega Handheld nomad needs a plug in bridge adapter to run Japanese games as the Sega Nomad was released in the U.S.A only (the cart port cannot be widened on a Sega Nomad).

Sega Megadrive Conversion £24.99 / To widen cartridge port £10.00
