Blast Wind

Post by EOJ »

Here's the Blast Wind (JP Saturn) high score ranking. All scores should be done on one credit on defaults (Normal difficulty, stock 3 lives).

Please submit in the following format:

NAME - SCORE - STAGE REACHED*- STAGE PATH (OPTIONAL)

*If "ALL", include Lives left (Lx_), as you get an end-game bonus for this.

The stage path is easy to figure out if you're not sure. In every stage there is a 'path' button you can push, which changes the direction of the scrolling, and gives you an alternate path through the level usually with a different end boss. If you don't push this button, you're going through X-1. Conversely, if you do push the button, you're going through X-2 (where X=stage number).

I had 4,49x,xxx at some point, but I've long since lost that score.

Also, I'm not sure what my path on lvl 6 was. It probably wasn't the one where you fight the giant machine thats attached to the walls though.

Shatterhand - 3641640 - ALL (Lx0)

I have no idea of the path I took, I am sorry.

I just finished this game. It's real easy, I just logged a hour of play time to do it.

But I see I can improve my score a lot. I really liked the game, I'll try to see if I can improve the score :D

Correction on my post:
6-2 was the path I took. There's an additional 1UP that way. Also, the mid-boss of 6-1 kills the shit out of me everytime. :x

Updated (and corrected). Good to see some others submit scores! This is a great game. I'll try and have another go at the game soon, to improve my score. I just need to find out how to beat the final boss without dying so much. :?

If you're talking about the mech that runs up the screen, there's an easy way of killing that midboss. During that battle, a plasma cannon will be travelling slowly up the left side of the screen, with a switch scrolling slowly down the right side. Hit the switch to activate the plasma cannon, which damages the midboss.

Sometimes the midboss will hit the switch itself, killing itself in the process. What a sucker :D

EDIT: Ack, my bad. I forgot about the wallcrawler boss before the mech. I drop a bomb (or two) right on top of it, and then attack with the wave shot, tapping slowly across the screen and popping through the bullet patterns as they appear. Personally, I don't mind losing a few points off the Bomb Bonus if it means I can attempt a No-Miss :P

By the way, anyone know what triggers the appearance of the 1UP carrier? I've had it appear in different stages, not sure what makes it appear. I haven't found the 1UP on 6-2 yet, but I have had two appear on 4-2, several times.

This game is pretty easy, but damn fun nontheless.

Icarus - 4,748,210 - ALL (Lx7) - 1-2/2-1/3-1/4-2/5-1/6-2

I believe that is the optimal scoring route through the game. I picked up two Extends from score - one during the battle against Gamma Ray (400k) and one not long before Drad (2mil) - as well as three 1UP items - one in 3-1, two in 4-2. Bombed the life out of Gorn to perserve my scoring attempt, and ended the game with one Bomb in stock.

This was a No-Miss as well ;) I'd guess that the absolute maximum is around 5mil, since there are probably a few extra lives hiding somewhere which I haven't found yet. This credit is also replay verified, and I'll let you know when the replay has finished encoding, and is up on the tracker.

EDIT: Fixed the point-based Extend comment. 400k and 2mil, not 4mil and 20mil (that's Dodonpachi  )

EDIT 2: The replay is available. You can get it off the tracker. BitTorrent client required.

Here's a topic you probably never expected to see again, heh heh. But seeing as I bought the game recently, and it's one of the few shmups that's easy enough for me to 1CC...

BulletMagnet - 4,080,360 - ALL (Lx2) - Blue Plane - 1-2/2-2/3-1/4-2/5-1/6-2

A few notes, if anyone cares...

1) I noted that I used the blue (1P) plane instead of the red (2P) plane, though there didn't seem to be a request to do so...
2) The trip to 2-2 was actually a mistake.
3) I probably could have finished with 3 or 4 lives in reserve, but the stupid final boss cheese killed me twice...'course, in a game this easy, almost every death you die will be a cheese death, but oh well.
4) As far as 1-ups go, I think it has something to do with the little 100-point coin items you collect; I think once you get a certain amount of them, the next coin-releasing traget you shoot will release a 1-up instead.
5) Has anyone managed to figure out what, if anything, influences what those large item-carrying things leave behind? Sometimes I get 2 items from 'em, sometimes 3...sometimes I get a bomb, or shield orb, or full power up, sometimes not...is it just random?

I AM the Ultimate Destroyer.

jp - 4,920,560 - All(x8) - 1-2/2-1/3-1/4-2/5-1/6-1

Yes. 8 lives. No miss. And I even took on the wall crawler midboss in level 6 (who is worth a whopping 100K). I've got a picture on my phone, so as soon as that hits my email I'll post it.

Also, I don't know why, but somewhere in 2-1 there's an extra 200K apparently. Which is really weird given the amount of bonus points in 2-2. Haha, I was about to go CRAZY trying to figure out how Icarus got that much higher than 4.5 mill (which I always figured was about the max), and apparently there's 200K tucked away in 2-1 somewhere. That, and the boat load of coins.

Speaking of coins, by my estimates after every 50 you collect a 1UP drops. I managed to get 4 1UP drops this go round (1 in Stage 3, 2 in Stage 4, and 1 final one in Stage 6, though I think you pretty much HAVE to take route 6-1 to accumulate enough coinage). I don't think its possible to get 5 1UP drops though... since if you do the coin collecting VERY WELL... like... MASTERFULLY, you BARELY get that extra 1UP in Stage 6. I don't know, maybe if you lucked up and got a "coin rain" in every single one of the random boxes you could pull it off, but even then you'd have to do some hardcore scrambling in Stage 4.

Anyways, now I'm off to red ship land. Because as cool as 1LCing with 8 lives with the blue ship is... doing the same with the red ship would just be hardcore.

Also, anyone else try this on Very Hard? At first it doesn't seem like much changed... but once you hit Ostragle then game becomes a VERY brutal beast VERY quickly.
