No really, you're confusing my crusty-old bitterness with politics (or worse, elitism.) I was trying to justify more my own opinion than attack yours (enjoy what you will!)
All that said, most of these albums (wipers and raincoats included) are in my collection and I listen to them now and then. So you have to take all my criticism with a grain of salt (like how Rob owns and plays Viewpoint...)

Eugenics: you know it's right!
the album i am listening to the most these days:
Apse / Spirit
from Wikipedia:
The band has has moved through many different musical styles since its inception, weaving together at various times shoegazer, heavy metal, gothic rock, post-punk, prog-rock, industrial, and post-rock influences; while at the same time dabbling in tribal, experimental, ambient and ethereal atmospheres.
they are playing live here soon (that's how i found out about them) - so maybe a fellow shmuper from Hamburg wants to join me at the Hafenklang on Nov 6th?
it's only 6/8€ - and live they're supposed to really be a blast

So, I gave Pilgrimage another listen and...I dunno...
I wouldn't say that Steve-O's co-production is too heavy-handed, but his grubby little hands (ears?) are definitely all over the record, particularly in Al's bass sound (too treble-y/dirty). But hey, what do you expect? It's Albini. Hiring him to record a fat, bass-y record would be like hiring Cronenberg to direct a cutesy romantic comedy. Actually....hmmm...
I still like it. It's still Om. But yeah, like Rob said, it's not quite as good as their other two offerings.
Oh, and Rob: yeah, it was Pinback's vocals that were the big deal-breaker for me. I will check out the Offcell EP and the Rob Crow record, though. Thanks for the suggestion on that (and your input as well, Jon).
Back to the topic at hand:
Instigators - Dine Upon the Dead
Big Boys - The Fat Elvis (compilation)
Asunder - Works Will Come Undone
King Khan and His Shrines - What Is?!

Terry Riley - Les Yeux Fermes & Lifespan
Interesting reissue of two 'psychedelic' soundtracks--which really means this is just music by Riley from the early 70's that ended up on a soundtrack. Two rather nice missing pieces from Riley; nicely complimenting his finest releases like Rainbow in Curved Air, Persian Surgery Dervishes, Reed Streams, etc. Highly recommended.
And speaking of Riley, what the hell happened to the Riley/Cale Church of Anthrax album? That was some tight shit!

I downloaded it. I can see why some would love it. A little too slick/flashy for its own sake. Or I just need more noise in metal. Or things I can remember. Or vocals, too.
I'm sending it off to professor ganson (so don't bother dl'ing it
).

Very surprised by this one. Is what I hoped the Shiina Ringo album would've been like (consistently good, interesting). '07 contender.

King Sunny Ade and His African Beats - Juju Music
Waylon Jennings - I've Always Been Crazy (a childhood favorite)
Final Solutions - Songs By Solutions (kinda weak, but picks up towards the end)
The Motards/The Cryin' Out Louds - split 7"
The Flakes - Back to School
Gas Huffer - "Firebug"/"Jesus Was My Only Friend" 7"
Off topic:
There has been altogether too many good live shows here lately. Hell, the other night Sonic Youth, The Black Lips, and The Legendary Shack Shakers were all playing within a few blocks from each another. I opted for the Black Lips/Selmanaires/Strange Boys show, as I've seen SY more times than I can count. Great stuff, but I kinda wished someone would have warned me about the whole self-watersports thing. Not that I'm that squeamish, but jeepers, that sort of caught me off-guard!

That sort of stupid shit combined with what I perceive to be rather weak music is what has always kept me away from the Black Lips. I don't get the fascination. The only thing I like about that band is Ernie, their tour manager. He's an ace.
I listened to ALOT of 7" vinyl whilst incapacitated with illness. I'm in a hurry though. So for the moment I will say that I bought the new Valley EP the day it came out and have been listening to it almost constantly ever since. My burner is busted so I can't do my usual routine of making a "car copy". That means I've actually had to remember to take it out to my car when driving and bring it back in the house when chilling out. It is so fucking good.
I think they'll actually make it to Austin this year MadSteel.

Listened to a lot of Van Der Graff Generator and Peter Hammill over the weekend.
