ESPgaluda 2 difficulty on PCB

Post by Strider77 »

I was wondering what the difficulty I should set on this PCB to? What the "normal" setting is considered to be in other words.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I was going to ask one of you lucky folks that have this game: how good do you consider it to be? I've only found one review on the net of it.

I thought ESP Galuda was a very fun game, but was plagued by bland character art, similar looking stages, and VERY bland boss and mid-boss designs. From what i've seen 2 looks like an improvement in all those departments.

Of course, I think Cave were seriously hurt when Jun left, because I think his designs helped push their games over the top. I mean, just look at Death Smiles. The game may end up sucking(who knows), but damn, it's great to look at!

I don't feel the character art has changed all that much (just a different style). Actually if anything, I'd say the ingame art stuff is a little less interesting because it doesn't have the cool in-between stage art of the first game (now it's just portraits).

Fortunately, the stages no longer look like ass (my biggest complaint about the first game), and the bosses are a hell of a lot more interesting as well.

As far as the scoring system goes, it's changed a bit. There seems to be less emphesis on quick switches (switch in, shoot a bullet, switch out) and more on longer chains. This has a lot to do with the fact that Zeshikai is pretty much the only way to get points now. Regular Kakusei is pretty much just for clearing the screen or getting gold bars.

I think it's good stuff, slightly more depth to the gameplay but it still feels like Galuda to me. Very happy with it, and of course you can get them brand new still, for a fair price.

What can I say, i'm a lazy looker. And this site has a very poor search engine.

I basically just put it in Google, and got a review at Insomnia. That's about it. Thanks for the links.

Hmmm... yeah... gonna have to go ahead and disagree with ya there.

Lot's more depth. In the first game, you only lost gold when you died. Now, since you lose it (very rapidly) w/ the new scoring method, you have two counters to effectively manipulate, not to mention 5 different modes (the three in the first game plus the two new zesshi modes) which all have different characteristics. Then the proximity effect to get gems, and the laser versus shot which also effect gems. Scoring-wise, it's Cave's most complex yet.

I thought for a second you were going to argue it was less complex than the first game :I

BTW, what IS the difference between Kakusei Over and Zeshikai Over? Other than one makes the screen look funny.

Zesshikai Over gives you way more gold. You need to use that mode in some spots to quickly rack up your gold counter.

I've been playing it quite a bit and I don't feel like I've even started to do everything effectively yet. Truly excellent game, which is funny because it's the one I procrastinated about the longest.

Actually, there are only two: yours and mine. Ord said that he'd write one but he hasn't got round to it yet. Also, we both beat Gamespot! lol

Over which top?

To be perfectly honest I don't see what all the fuss is about with this guy. Sure, I like his art, but Kotani or Haccan are equally good as far as I am concerned.

But hey, whatever.

Gotta get involved man. Definitely the game I've spent the most $$ on (and rightfully so as I bought the PCB new). Do you have the super play DVD? Watching it will definitely make you feel inept, but will also give you a nice push in the right direction.

Nope - I don't really like watching superplays, I like learning myself and from snippets, not having the solution presented to me in one go, "here you go, learn to copy this". The only time I ever watch them is when it's the best way to see a really good quality capture of the game in motion with audio, helps purchasing decisions.

You might be able to get somewhere w/ just help here. When it first came out though, it was frustrating. There's a lot going on. Oh, the beauty of arcades.

I'm very much the same way. About all I've seen is part of a Stage 1 replay. If you need someone to ping thoughts/ideas off closer to your skill level you can always bug me.

Had another game during my lunch break (the perks of living close to the office). Bad score, but I was doing better in level 2 than normal, have to work out why next time.

Reminded me of something I needed to say since people who may be considering buying the game are reading - one of the really BIG wins in my book is the difficulty level. I'm not a great player, I struggle along the average line more or less, but unlike some other games in recent years, this one has the difficulty spot on. You never feel like a death was unfair, that it was cheap - every time I die I can see right there how I should have avoided it, and most importantly I feel like I /could/ have avoided it. On the other hand, it's not easy either - pushing for score makes life a lot more dangerous.

Shame it'll never get a port.

I've been looking for videos of this game, and all I can find is some on YouTube, one on Insomnia, and a link to a big superplay, that never connects.

Anyone have any links to video of the WHOLE game, in pretty good quality video(not streaming)?

Try working at home!

When you try to rape stage 2, it's actually really easy to fuck up I think. You need X amount of gems and gold on the boss, and getting them at the end when the stage goes diagonal can be tough.

There was a torrent a while back which I'm sure is dead now.

What does give you big points during Stage 2 anyway? I feel like I'm missing something crucial because that's the only stage I can't get a lot of points on. I've tried Zeshikai'ing the mid boss or the diagonal part at the end, but neither seem to give a whole ton of points.
