And whats the difference between a doujin game and a commercial game except for the involvement of a publisher?

Fair enough, I should have thought before dignifying that with a reply. A lot of poeple have invested a lot of time and effort into this project and we're proud of it. Just ashame to see people so quickly use it as a target to grow their e-peen

Wow, Varia is a insta-winner. A bit easy maybe, but it has a completely unique style. Maybe not in terms of graphics, but the feeling of the patterns and the unique stuff the bosses have and do is just genious.

I tried downloading Varia and got errors. Although I'm not sure if I downloaded the patch or the full game. Also, why can't you just link to the downloads instead of going through 3 or 4 links?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

We're still in the process of judgeing. Once this has been done we'll be putting up a page with all the reviews and links to download collected together.

Some really cool games on there! Any chance there will be another contest in the future? I may be interested in participating :)

I am sure some developers can compile for Mac, too.
Just ask them!

I'm sure there will be at some point. Not too soon though since everyone needs a break and we dont want to flood our sponsors. Stay tuned, there's stuff going on all the time even if its not one of the big competitions.

Good stuff!

Howabout creating a page with screenshots of each game, so the busy ones like me don't have to click through each and every thread there or blindly install games? Thanks!

Some of the entries are made in game development kits that are platform spacific. Others make extensive use of Windows libraries. I suppose many of the games made in Blitzmax could be easly converted but most other languages may take some time. Things made in Game Maker are windows only.

The competitions have pretty much been the bread and butter of Shmup-Dev. You can expect more games in the future. Also many people make games outside the competitions so there is a somewhat constant stream of games being worked on.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.
