The retarded infinite-looping Toaplan games thread
After going through some of the hi score threads for stuff like Tatsujin and so on and seeing some of the crazy ass counter stops it really sparked my curiosity as to possible funny stories behind multi hour runs in some of these games. I know many of you are responsible for counter stopping this stuff at actual arcades back in the day (i.e. - DEL)
I mean, what if your completely starving once you get to like the 4 hour mark or so?? Do you have your friends feed you while you continue playing? AND WHAT IF YOU REALLY NEED TO TAKE A PISS

I'm wondering if most guys that've 1CC'ed these games did the US or JPN versions. I recently started replaying V-V and I'm hating the fucking check points.
And it's not just for these games that having to go to the can can pose a problem. Think of really, really, really good fighting game players.

Usually when I'm wrapped up in a game, I forget to eat. The calls of nature are slightly more problematic, but those are simply solved by not drinking too many fluids before playing.
I suppose you could always wear adult diapers if you had to go that badly. I know that some casino-goers actually do that...
As for eating while playing... simply grab whatever, and hold it by your teeth, and pull it in by your tongue.

Ohhh... I see what you mean =D I've gotten far too used to playing fighting games at home, and being forced to switch off since my friends get sick of playing just me.Icarus wrote:That's the only problem with being a fighter player: the only time you get to take a break is when you lose a match.GaijinPunch wrote:They don't have people limits.Arvandor wrote:GP: Most fighting games have time-limits =)
In the arcade, the highest win streak I ever had was like 113 or something near that (best of 5 even), and that wasn't nearly long enough for food or bathroom to be an issue =/ But yeah, if I really had to use the restroom, I'd just offer someone else my spot and wander off.

Tatsujin/Truxton was the best example of this multi-hour madness and the Mills 11hr+ story is the winner. I'm not sure where I posted it (in Hi-Sc or Strat), but the short version is that he played in a 24hr snooker hall, pushing more than 20mil in an 11 hour marathon with no food, water or toilet breaks. On top of this, the game has no stage breaks, not even at the loop and the bullet speed from the 3rd loop onwards is extremely fast.
The climax of the story is that Mills punched the screen through after dying, so not only did the snooker hall make 30p in a 12 hour period, it had to replace the smashed screen
.
He's lucky he didn't faint or worse. The more recent incidents of people falling down dead after marathon game sessions with no breaks, food or water is pretty scary.
Mills' 100,000,000 score on Fire Shark must have been very long too. I only bothered with 5 hours per game on Truxton and Fire Shark myself
.
As for versions of Toaplan games with checkpoints. There's only one game where this slowed us down: the Japanese Twin Cobra (Kyukyo Tiger - spelling?).
The Japanese version of Tatsujin Oh is also worth mentioning, because its so much harder than the Intl version.
Our 2 player counter stop of Vimana was long as hell too (KAC & me).

Anyway,
Here's a copy/paste of.....
London’s Greatest Arcade Screen Punches
The principle protagonists in this story of screen smashing are my mates KAC and The Old Mills. Many a cabinet screen smashed to smithereens in their illustrious careers.
Kevin Cook - KAC
Darius II Sagaia was the largest screen smash ever. It happened in the Trocadero arcade. The game was notoriously nasty, real hard to 1CC. We heard that someone 1 credited it, but it got past us. Anyway, one day KAC was having the credit of his life on Sagaia. He was on the rushing asteroid stage with full silver shield, wave firepower, the works! It looked like this was finally THE credit, we could smell the completion. With full silver shield, nothing can wipe you out in one go. Then one asteroid screamed across the screen and did a One Character Victory (OCV) on him……Gone……there was a looong silent pause….BAANG! The double sized Darius screen went, huge shards of glass everywhere. It sounded like a bomb had gone off. We scooted off to the other side of the arcade and somehow, don’t know how? We hadn’t been spotted by the Security. Exit stage left.
Crime Fighters - A scrolling beater featuring many street punks, like Final Fight. Except unlike Final Fight, it had a Blue Oyster Bar Gay character in full leathers, moustache and cap. If you let this character get too close to you, he would grab you from behind and sodomize you (however you want to put it).
So, KAC was playing Crime Fighters in London’s Casino arcade and he happened to have attracted a large crowd of onlookers that day, all crowded round the cab. Then of course the inevitable happened, his character got err...done
. He couldn’t take it, the screen HAD to go! SMASH!!!
Rusevelt Roberts – The Old Mills
Mills had a wonderful early career of screen smashing. Never one to be content with just 10 loops of a shoot’em up, he had to go for 20.
The Truxton/Tatsujin Incident of 1990 – Mills was spotted in a 24hour snooker hall by shoot’em up brothers Peeush and Dharmesh (ARM & ARC). He was playing Truxton. It was the evening and he was on about 10 million points, five hours into his credit and the brothers went off to play snooker. About six hours later, the brothers went and checked on Mills who was eleven hours into his 30p credit and on about 20 million points (about double the accepted Counter Stop benchmark WR for the game).
Now at this point you’ve gotta realise that Truxton has no stage stops, no rest, not even at the Last Boss, it just keeps scrolling on, loop after loop. The stress doesn’t diminish either, from loop 3 onwards the bullets litter down at silly speeds. So Mills had been standing at that cabinet without toilet breaks, without food or water for eleven hours!
Things apparently went wrong at the 23million mark and Mills finally lost his last life. SMASH! Fist through screen. What did he want? 30Million? To collapse on his feet?!
Where does Mills draw the line?
There were other incidents like a guy called Robert who used to play the difficult to complete Prehistoric Isle 1. He tried and tried for the completion but never quite got it. The last day I ever saw him was when he reached the Last Tyrannosaur Boss and died. He clubbed the screen with his hand...HARD. Surprisingly it didn’t break…but it broke his hand. Haven’t seen him in seventeen years now
.
Mills and KAC still play in the arcades to this day, as do I. They have calmed down and haven’t smashed a screen for a long time.
---------------------------------
After 1992, KAC switched to a successful career in People Punching. He switched to Street Fighter II and if a challenger beat him too many times, the challenger would get a good clubbing
.
More recently, KAC has decided to revisit Star Force and beat his old 6,000,000 record (far into Infinity Stage ST26+). He knows about the Cleopatra bonus now, so an extra mil will help.
Another counter stop rarely mentioned is KAC's CS of Defender II 'Stargate'.
^THAT is an excellent idea. Everyone regards those hat contraptions (see Kingpin) as pointless, buy YOU have just found the reason for their existenceAll you need is one of those hats which have beer cans attached to the sides and a couple of straws to the mouth, only you can replace the beer with some kind of hearty soup.
