Is this the same as Kyuukyoku Tiger?

If it is, then yes, I really like this game a lot.

Twin Cobra is one of Toaplans finest shooters! And one of my favs. I've got Twin Cobra for the Genesis, Kyukyoku Tiger for the PCE and the PSX Toaplan Shooting Battle (vol 1... damn I long for vol 2). The best home version is, without doubt, the PSX TSB - which has both the Japanese Kyukyoku Tiger (with restart points) and Twin Cobra (no restart points and a bit easier plus 2 player).

But the Genesis version and PCE versions are both quite good. The Genesis version is a little easier to come by - both are fairly cheap.

It's classic shooter-ville with this one. And once you begin to gain skill with the game, you will go a LONG way in it. Modern shooters will hate the aimed and from-behind bullets, but that's part of the Toaplan charm.

Highly recommended.

it's crap. Batsugun and Fire Shark are where it's at for Toaplan games.

I liked it a lot. Helicopters are under-used.

Never played Twin CORBA, however there was this fantastic arcade game involving helicopters called Twin Cobra. Genesis port was pretty weak, but had decent renditions of the tunes.

Arcade only (via mame, so that may not count  ) and not very far into it.

Batsugun and Fire Shark are where it's at for Toaplan games.

Man, I spent a gazillion hours playing Fire Shark on the genny. Love that game!

I prefer "Triple K Tiger" on the PC-Engine.

It's one of three PCBs that I actually have, and it's a pretty solid, early JAMMA shmup. Though Ganelon is right, it has Gradius-esque frusturation levels...

PCE version is the dog's. Genny version... meh. Arcade is where it's at. An I much prefer this to both Truxton and Twin Hawk. Just as good as Fire and Flying Shark IMO.

Hmm, my earlier judgment was based on the Genesis version. The arcade version is a lot better.

Still far from excellent, thoe.

I own the Genesis version, and I haven't played it in a really long time, probably because it's not that great of a shmup. Actually, it may be the worst shmup I have for my Genesis

Still, you might as well have it in your library if you're a collector.

I'd give the Genny version another try. It's quite good, actually - balanced and full of Toaplan goodness.

Nothing beats the PSX rev, however. And if you dig Toaplan (and you should, IMHO!) it's really a great game. Nobody should pass judgement on this classic unless you've put some real time into it - the game is decidedly different from any type of modern shooter and is unrelending in how bullets are aimed at your from all sides.

True! :)

I'll bring out the old Genesis this weekend and give it another try. You may be right, as I've only played it a few times (like 5 or less) when I first got it.
