One or two beers might make things a little easier for a slower paced more methodical shooter. Anything more and I would go to pieces.

I play better after having a shizzy day. Anger, angst, whatever you call it fuels more intensified and better gameplay.

I have no need for alcohol or other types of intoxicants to enhance my gaming experience.

For me it's not about enhancing the gaming experience. It's just that sometimes we end up playing videogames after we've been doing drugs.

Makes sense, since your body is awake and has had time to become alert. I'm like that during the summer. Since I don't have school, it's good to get up and run in the morning. I have more energy throughout the day.

My skills go down if I have anything in me. Even caffeine. I stay healthy for Cross Country, so putting caffeine or lots of sugar in my body really shocks the system.

The one time i ever 1cc'd mars matrix i was high beyond any source of actual thought, and barely even focused on the game it felt like. My friends tried playing before me, and made it maybe to the first boss before losing all their lives.
Also, i may also be much much worse at resident evil 4 when i'm high, but putting your elbow through a zombies head and hearing that satisfying crunching noise has never been more fun.

i used to drop a few ranks comming back after the bars drunk and getting my asshanded to me. one of my mates only play online gambeling at certan times of the day to catch all the drunk americans pissing there money away on poker. he usualy leave the pub early of a weekend too to catch all the pissed up brits too

The only substance I've ever taken is alcohol, and these are my observations of playing drunk.

- 632146 motions become incredibly difficult in fighting games
- I do worse at shmups
- Smash Bros is MORE fun (especially if the other players are also drunk)
- If I try to play something like a shmup, I end up concentrating so hard on not sucking with my impaired dexterity, that it sobers me up relatively quick

- I don't actually like gaming much while drunk, barring a very select few titles.

I dont drink at all, or any of that other stuff.

Instead, I just use Mountain Dew and the caffiene contained within

It helps, as long as I dont have too much, cause then I just get all jittery, and instead of dodging bullets, I'll cheerfully crash into them.

I've tried some shoot'em'ups when I was stoned. It's usually a visually stimulating experience, but there's no way in hell I'm actually going to get a serious score. Generally, stoned gaming I do worse.

I think I've had some success with a few beers playing some shmups. I remember alcohol really brought up my game in Day of Defeat: Source one night... I had a few beers w/ the buds and got home and ended up laying waste. It was pretty joyeous.

Shmupping takes a lot of concentration. I don't really think they encourage drug use... "Winners Don't Use Drugs" after all.

Coffee has brought up my shmup game though, think I got my best score in Mushihime-sama with the aid of a cup or two.

On the uber old forums we had an interesting discussion about the "zen of shmupping" (I think there might have been a few repeat threads since). My contribution was that sometimes it helps for me to have some minor distraction like listening to music or having a conversation with somebody while I'm playing. I'm guessing the way that works is it allows me to play by reaction while my cognitive mind is off doing something else.

This is good to me for survival, but not for score. I've always played for survival, and I think I only begun score-playing here at this forum... so when the mind is "out of the game", I'll react by instinct to what have always been natural to me.

First time I reached 1-8 at Strikers 1945 II was chatting with a friend. I was playing the game for nearly an hour... then a friend of mine showed up, I invited him in and we begun talking while I was playing the game. Suddenly I realized I was at 1-8 on my 1st credit yet... then I suddently stopped the conversation and said "Goddamn I never got that far!!!"... of course I just died the second later, hehe

I got my DDP:DOJ highscore while playing and getting pretty drunk on Stoli. My highscore is only 16mil though, so it might have had more to do with the fact that I was drunk enough to keep playing over and over again without getting frustrated.

I've found that often something like half a beer will somehow relax you enough that you can perform well. In general however I think drinking or any other substance makes you worse. The only reason that beer seems to help is the relaxation factor. More than one beer definitely makes shmupping worse.

I have a really hard time gaming when im drunk (especially shmups). I need to do something "chill". I can however, do some grinding in rpg's.

I'm not sure if im better or worse at games when im high, because im usually playing things that are really flashy and crazy, like rez or the katamari series.

(Note: Drinking goes well with the typical STGT game. Parsec47, OTOH, needs to be played stone cold sober, although it is intoxicating in and of itself)

I was high as a kite last night and fired up the old DDP, managed to get to level 5 which has only happened a handful of times. Didn't beat my highscore though. I found that I could understand the more complicated bullet patterns a lot easier, and all of my deaths were stupid (although the level 4 boss ate about 6 bombs in a row... the guy is a bitch).

I used to smoke weed but as it has gotten problematic to get good stuff I've switched to hasjies.
Our stupid christian fundamentalist government keeps hunting those guys that grow weed instead of real criminals.

If the effort which is taken is equal to the amount of 'crimes' then you can easily say that the Netherlands must be full of speeding monsters and weed growers. They even fly with helicopters to find that one plant that is hidden in a big farmer's field. How stupid can you be ?!?
