Am I not a "true" shmup fan?

I hear that. I, just last night, beat the first boss AND the dragons on the first level of Trizeal, without losing a life--and if it wasn't so late, I would have screamed. It was a big deal to me, because before that, I had thought that I wouldn't be able to beat the dragons, so I was purposefully skipping them so that I could try to see if I could make it to the third stage on one credit--The goal that I had set for myself.
As soon as I pretty much "gave up," not on the goal but rather the "limiting of myself," I took a deep breath and stepped into that dragon's den in the sky, and did my absolute best to figure out how to survive, on the fly. I didn't know that I could sit in the same place, either! I was shooting, leading, dodging and playing to the best of my ability, and evidently, that's what pays off for me. Not holding back, not assuming that I can't handle it. And I did it!
The funny part about it all is that even though I was skipping the dragons to be sure that I'd have enough lives on the second level, I would almost consistently do something stupid at or near the first stage boss, and lose one (or two!) of them. Then, I defeat the dragons, have a great time doing it, and have all of my lives to boot.
What I like about games like this is that when you think that they let you continually test and succeed your own limits. It's for this reason that I'd like to ask humbly for anyone not currently going for a 1CC (because they don't think that they can do it) that they perhaps try it--They might be pleasantly surprised.
Like with lots of things, focus can be everything with these games... and if you try another focus, you might find that it could actually be closer to your "true" focus than the one that you had before. That sounds really confusing, but, hopefully it makes a least a little bit of sense...
