Does anyone know about the HORI Wii arcade stick?

Post by koda »

Pardon my noobness. I know next to nothing about what makes a good arcade stick good-- I love the arcade genres; SHMUPs, etc. but it's quite an expensive niche of gaming. Thus, I haven't had a whole lot of experience on the hardware side of things. I know that you guys have, though.

While I use my Dreamcast for most of my SHMUPping, I've noticed that the Wii has a lot of decent arcade-style games on the way. Unfortunately Metal Slug Anthology doesn't have classic controller support, so the stick is going to be a no-go there, but we've got things like Karous, Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core, King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga, Samurai Showdown Anthology, etc. Although the Virtual Console isn't receiving arcade games (other than MVS) yet, an arcade stick would most likely be useful for a lot of what's out, and what will be made available in the future.

So I'm looking at my options for a stick here, and I see one option. http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/HWI-18.html. Would anyone be able to comment on the quality of something like that? My experience with HORI has been quite positive, but I've never used one of their arcade sticks. If people here deem that it's not worth the cash, I'll probably just wait on it.

Thanks for lending me your vast sea of knowledge, shmups forum. =)

There might have been another thread, but I can't remember any comments on the quality... someone may have said it is similar to the Fighting Stick 2 for PS2 which is regarded as mildly poopy (or worse).

Thanks-- I should've done a search first. Bad form on my part.

Looks like I chose the wrong board, too. I'm on a roll.
