Mainly just some DC ports on XBLA and a few original games which look like garbage (Shin Chuuka Taisen, Soldner X, and Omega Five). Nothing exciting to me. That Star Soldier R game for the Wii could be a good one though.
EDIT: I forgot Shiki III for the JP Wii and JP X360 this December. That's a decent game.

It's just paced too slow. There are a lot of lulls in the action, and even more if you know where to fire rockets. Sometimes it feels like you can go through entire stages without seeing any bullets (exaggeration, yes, but still...). I found myself daydreaming while playing Under Defeat... That's never happened to me while playing a shooter before.

Considering trends, Treasure's 360 project will likely turn out to be something all new unless it's RS3 - which is almost as unlikely as a sequel to Alien Soldier.
Gradius VI would definetly make me creme' though. If anything it seems PS3 bound.
Maybe R-Type Tactics will do well enough to warrant a console iteration?

Please note that the game is set to Hard.
I'll give the game two things... cute artwork and a nice soundtrack (well, what you can hear over the retardedly loud shot souds).

You can already play it "console style" by having a PSP-2000 and a PSP component cable.circuitface wrote:Considering trends, Treasure's 360 project will likely turn out to be something all new unless it's RS3 - which is almost as unlikely as a sequel to Alien Soldier.

Soldner - X (play-asia shmup 4 PS3) is the only one I can think of. Maybe Nucleus...isn't that a next-gen shooter?

Not that new IP (or new extensions to old series) wouldn't be nice, but I think there's reason to be pessimistic regarding new development for the latest gen hardware, perversely precisely because of the impact of XBLA and VC (and presumably PSN once it gets going - they've started selling downloadable emulated PSX games now, right?). Just about every review of the US release of Senko no Ronde knocked marks off for the effrontery of a full price release when it's a mere arcade game. Re-releases and new ports with minor updates or mode additions have relatively low development overhead, so slapping Gunhed on VC or Ikaruga on XBLA is viable. The derisory prices those platforms appear to impose could be suicidal for a new project, though (no, I don't know how many units Space Giraffe needs to sell to break even). Not that this is exactly new - older ports have also migrated to budget labels on the way out of Japan - but the price difference does seem like it could be even more prohibitive. I don't personally see why the download platforms couldn't offer new content at much closer to retail box prices, but I've no idea whether there are any plans to let this happen. It could be that retrospective ports like the Psikyo collections or shovelware compilations are all the new gen will realistically support.ROBOTRON wrote:I was thinking D-7 meant true next-gen shooters...not anthing thats been on a previous console.
