XRGB2 and LCD TV's

Post by neorichieb1971 »

Hi guys,

Thinking about getting a Sony Bravia next month. They mostly come with VGA inputs. Apparently some PC monitors are not compatible with the XRGB2 and I assume this happens with LCD TV's as well! Has anyone bought a LCD TV and it not work with the XRGB2?

Thanks.

It works, but the "wobbly" (=shaky) vertical sync of the XRGB2's VGA out is a problem on large screens.

Does this problem still exist with the 2+ ?

Yes, and it does on the XRGB-3 (in 480p mode) as well. It's about the only thing I really dislike about the XRGB machines.

So can I just ask please. If I attach my XRGB2 to a LCD TV, i'm definitely getting this shaky business? Without fail!

Definitely. But please note that there seem to be people out there who are using the XRGB2 on a LCD TV and don't mind the shaky sync.

It's definitely on all XRGB2/3 units, since I had three or four 2/2+ units and three 3 units and all showed the same behaviour.

What about V-line Fudoh?

I took my XRGB2 round a friends house, he had a goodmans 32" LCD TV and when V-line was ON, it was like the TV line doubled and filled in the missing lines. Did you get a good V-line effect on the LCD TV's you used?

The higher the res, the better, on my LG is was ok with the XRGB-2+, but the scanlines seemed a bit "uneven" or unregularly. The XRGB-3 does not have a scanline option as of now.

What's this vertical wobble you speak of?

Do you have a RGB2 or 3 ?

I did never own a XRGB1, but the 2, 2+ and 3 (in linedoubling mode) have a rather unstable vertical sync signal. It's clearly visible and really the only (slightly) annoying point about those machines.

I wonder if it's more visible on an LCD? I'm running mine on a 21" IBM (Trinitron) VGA monitor and if I get my face right up to it I can see a little wiggle, but sitting back (a few feet) I have a hard time seeing anything move (asside from typical PlayStation 2 wiggle [vertical lines show this the most], which is also visible on my low rez RGB monitor).

It's more visible on LCDs than on CRTs and it's more visible on large screens (32"+) than on smaller ones (17-21").

I don't have any instability on my raw PS2 signal though. Using YUV from the PS2 into another video processor I get a 100% stable picture on my LCD.

The DVDO iScan Ultra units start moving into the XRGB3 price range currently, so it might be a good idea to watch out for one of those instead for a XRGB if RGB support isn't neccessary (they accept YUV though).

richie it works fine on my LCD,
do check that the TV you are about to get has a resolution mode and refresh rate compatible with that output by the XRGB2

Are you sure you don't want a Panasonic plasma? And if not, why not? What advantage does a sony lcd have over a plasma besides burn in and pwoer consumption?

Heat. My mom's plasma makes of our living room the hottest area in the house.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

LOL, I wish. Nah, it's because the darn thing radiates heat from all over its surface.

@Strider: The AC somehow can't keep up. The rest of the house will be cool and chilly, but the living room is always hotter when the TV is on.

my gaming room is small, it gets warmer than the rest of the house also from the tv, esp if the 360 or PS3 is on for awhile, they generate heat also. well, in a small area it can be noticed.
