Thunderforce V: PSX or Saturn?

Post by Davey »

"Ha." First post ever, I rule. 100% of board posts.

But seriously, good to see the new board is here. This will be free, right?

Saturn version, easily. The PS version is missing a few touches here and there- like the ground parallax on Human Road.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

That and you can't go to the pleasure dome at the end of the PSX version.

As I posted in the old forum after a lenghty and thorough analysis of both Thunder Forces (RGB connections, side by side comparison), the Saturn version gets the nod but only barely. Minus some framerate and parallax effects, the PSX version actually measures up to the Saturn version.

No version is unplayable due to bad framerates or graphics. The saturn feels a bit more a labor of love, the PSX works just fine since it can crunch polygons with no problem.

Either will make you happy. If price is a concern, get the PSX version. Sure, you miss on the spectacular work that Technosoft did on the Sat, but you will be satisfied, trust me.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

That and everyone knows Technosoft stopped doing shooters after Thunderforce 3 and just started pumping out Mahjong and pachinko games after that. It is a silly thread I think...

The fact that it's in the Off-Topic (i.e. non-shmup discussion) forum might indicate as such, heh heh.

I think I may have played it back in grade school...it was a cassette for Coleco Vision "Adam", right?

Someday soon, a newbie will join, see this thread and think we're all total crackpots.

And he's going to be absolutely right, of course.

So, I have mastered the art of subtlety so well that my jokes are indistinguishable from legitimate posts. I'm flattered!

I just thought it was the perfect way to christen the new board. Now it can be a true successor. :)

On a side note, I'm not digging the star background... it reminds me of shitty Geocities homepages (you know, the kind with an h1 italicized, pure red banner that says "My Homepage," the animated pencil that says "E-mail me", and the construction guy icon). But, I can live with it. The plain white background that was up yesterday was much cleaner looking. Regardless, this is still a few orders of magnitude better than the temp forum, so I'll stop my bitching.

WOAH...did Daveforshmups just transform into Davey (like, you know, Davey and Goliath Davey !!??)

EDIT: You've done more than master subtlety, I thought the other Dave started this forum! Crap! How many freakin' Daves have we got now!!??

12 years later....... (but the question is relevant!)
If you use an emulator ,say, SSF with Sweetfx and ReShade, vs the latest EPSXE?
Whats the best?

PS1 emulation is vastly better than Saturn emulation, so that should answer the question.

As for what's better, give the topic a read.

Now that I think about at it... yeah. Absolutely.
It's kind of charming nowadays, at least. A reminder of a bygone era of the web.

But hey, at least you can read the text here.

Man, some days I feel like I lucked out. Nearly all the shit I did back in 2005 has been gladly scoured clean thanks to all of those sites I used dying.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

^ The sites may be dead, but have you checked whether the WayBack Machine archived any of it? :P

oh god I wonder if WayBack or anything else out there archived my DeviantArt submissions from when I was 12~13 (and deleted when I was 14)

The good/bad thing about these bumps is it reminds you just how fucking old we are now (yikes) and about how so many other people have moved on with their adult lives, and have no time to argue about video games and movies on an internet forum.
