Gunstar Super Heroes -- on GBA, screens inside!

Post by LoneSage »

Yeh, on the GBA...aw well, it looks totally kickass. Check it! play did an article on it:

It does look delicious. Anyone notice how the main character's posture in the bottom left-hand corner resembles Alien Soldier's? :D

I hope it's a return to form (ala Astro Boy=GBA) and not one of their slip ups (Gaurdian Heroes Advance).
Ikaruga review now up in PLASMA BLOSSOM

Guess they've sold out, finally doing sequels. Or giving the fans what they wanted, depending on your viewpoint :P

Shame they picked the GBA, now everyone will just download the rom.

I noticed the similarity to the Alien Soldier stance also :\
In Gunstar Heroes, the gun was fired with the other hand (facing the same direction), wasn't it..?

Anyway, I am super excited about this!

I just got done reading the story linked on click's page. YESSSS! And the same excellent, spritey art style as the first game. The GBA is officially IMHO now a perfect followup to the SNES. Also, I now HAVE to get a GBA player for my Cube because of this. I look forward to gunning on the run, but I wanna see this beauty on a bigger screen too. :)

I just hope it can live up to the unbelievable expectation and pressure put on it by the first game.

But again...WHOO.

Maybe it's a sequel to Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier at the same time --- the same way World of Illusion was a sequel to Castle of Illusion and Quackshot?

Personally, I'm less than thrilled. I'm happy that a new Gunstar Heroes game is coming out, but I really wanted it to be on a console. The game looks good, but I'm skeptical that it will stand up to the Genesis original.
Who else was going to do it?
Well, since SEGA owns the franchise, they could have handled it inhouse.

goes well with Treasure's general scheme of not putting out the best stuff for a console until it is almost or completely dead.

Treasure swore off sequels (until last year's Advance Guardian Heroes) and have resisted selling out ever since, making them the most talented independant studio in the world.
I'm not trying to be a Treasure-hater, but I must stress that that doesn't actually make any sense.

Yes, they've done an admirable job avoiding making sequels.

And yes, if we define "selling out" as "making sequels," then I suppose we could say that Treasure has also done a good job not selling out.

But that doesn't really say anything about the quality of their games, which are agruably some of the best out there. But the mere fact that they don't make sequels does not make them great. What makes them great is that they strive to do something new and different in each outing. They could have made every one of their later games a sequel to Gunstar Heroes, and if they had kept up that level of innovation, they'd all still be great games.

I used to be a rabid Treasure fanboy, but recently my fanaticism for them has waned. They make great games. Sin & Punishment is my favorite of theirs, followed probably by Astro Boy. After that, they've made some fun games to play, but I don't think I'd count Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes, Ikaruga, Silhouette Mirage, or Mischief Makers among my favorites.

I'll keep an open mind though. I just don't think everything Treasure touches turns to gold.

When the rumors of a new Gunstar Heroes started floating about, a lot of people were speculating on whether or not Treasure would be involved or if it was just Sega whoring out their classics like they've been doing for a few years now.

I'm glad its Treasure behind it, and not incompetent Sega.

I want this game harder than I've ever wanted anything.

Then again...I wanted Advance Guardian Heroes pretty hard too and look what happened there.

so is this game going to be a sequel or a remake?

A lot of those screens look look very familiar (especially that helicopter)

Awesome. However, what the hell is with the bar on the top of the screen. Please don't tell me the game is going to have a chargeable ammo system like in Alien Soldier...

It definitely looks like a different game. What's up with every screen having a vehicle on screen? That girl in the machine is probably an ally.

yeah, but Metroid Zero Mission looks like a different game too.

I'm just saying that the backgrounds seem to be the same sorts of levels as in the original, and jumping around on that Helicopter made for a pretty cool boss fight.

Frankly, I'd buy it either way - I just wish we had more to go on than these screens.

edit - nvm, just read the article attached to those screens...

"All we know for sure is it's a sequel, not a remake"

I'll shut up now.

OOoohhh.. now I know what I will get for my GBA....

I've been wanting to buy a new game for it... now I'll just wait 'til this get released.

Gunstar Heroes is IMO the best Treasure game ever, the best mega-drive game ever, and the best game on this genre ever.

They could have called it Great Hunters, Glorious Hierophants, Galactic Hyperions, said it's a spiritual sequel, and the game would still rock if they follow the same trend as they did with RSG and Ikaruga (yeah, there's chaining and the Stone-Like object, but it's not the same game). It could be a sequel only in name. However, so what if this is a direct sequel? GH was THE most-deserving-of-a-sequel game in the universe.

It's not like they have been sticking to the exact same franchises the way Konami did back in the day: "ZOMFG, April O'Neill has been kidnapped, Turtles, go and rescue her from the clutches of the Shredder for the 194th time!" or "Evil Count Dracula has risen *AGAIN*, so you Alfredo Manuel Torcuato Hernandes Cohimbra de La Coronilla Y Acevedo Belmont, must slay him" (Ha! "Must"? Why not just go have an ebola-infected patient pee on his sangria? That'll learn him.)

[Marta Stewart] And that's a good thing. [/Marta]

It just better not have a save system, and it better not have a ton of slowdown like astro boy did. the genesis one had ZERO slowdown even with all that shit going on at once, and i have the feeling this is going to be slowdown city like astro boy.

it's hard to not be excited, but i dont wanna keep my hopes up TOO much. it's gonna have to be REALLY good if they want it to live up to the original.

With all the possibilities open to them, why did they have to put this on the GBA?
why, why , why , why ,why ,WHY!!!!?

Straight away, it's gonna be directly compared to the original Megadrive/Genesis version.... so harsh.
