MAME code used in Oretachi Geisen Zoku Thunder Cross

Post by Ceph »

This is already 6 months old, but I never read about it until now.

http://namakoteam.com/news.php?id=147

So they used MAME to emulate Thunder Cross, and apparently without permission. And since it was used in that game, chances are it was used in others as well.

Probably reason enough not to buy any (more) of the Oretachi Geisen Zoku releases...

Yeah, this is olds. But a search here didn't come up with anything (which, given how crappy the search engine is doesn't mean that it really wasn't discussed)...

this is an outrage

suddenly I feel especially justified in not having bought the Contra or Haunted Castle ports - I wasn't going to anyway, of course

Tatio Memories do too, AFAICR. Don't know if they had permission to do so.

The Taito Memories was supported by MAME developers. It does not
use MAME code directly but it uses the ROM's.

Konami have been nice to MAME. Do you think that MAME will
challenge them ?

Hey don't knock Metal Slug Anthology, they added a great new feature to the ps2 version, input lag! It makes the first game unplayable, woo!

This is exactly why people that cry about freeware emulation being wrong need to STFU. The emulation scene makes a lot of these retro compilations possible. Even ones that don't directly use code from these emulators benefit from the documentation. Commercial emulation would not be as good if freeware emulation wasn't pushing things forward.

Shatterhand: It's not very noticeable in Metal Slugs 2-5 (actually 5 might not have any), but 1 has at least a half a second of input lag. It makes the simplest things impossible to do, like dodging the first boss's attacks.

IIRC, 6 doesn't have any input lag because the developers used code from the PS2 port.

Do the XBOX and Wii ports have similar issues ?

The PS2 ports of 3, 4, and 5 don't have input lag either; it's only in the anthology

Well, it makes sense. I've played 3 and 6 the most, having already 1cc 1 a long time ago.....

There are people out there complaing about freeware emulation? Isn't that like killing puppies, complain about Santa, hating strawberry cakes... Really, what terrible childhood trauma did they endure to become so disgusted with life's best things (which as everyone knows are free)?
