R Type DX. What are your thoughts?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

I recently bought R Type DX for 9 bucks. I'm looking forward to playing it and would like to get your opinions about the game. The gameboy color never seemed to get a lot of shmups and I thought this might be nice for my shmup fix on the run away from my PC,ps2,dreamcast,genesis,gamecube ect.. 8)

So I read a bit about it but I'd rather hear a the thoughts of members here your opinion is more valid to me.

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I am trying to buy one.. I just missed one at the local auction site... got so pissed , the guy pulled out the auction before it's endtime.

I hope I can find another one soon.

no no, it was from the brazilian Mercado Livre :) not from ebay.

I'd pay 8 dollars + shipping for one copy of it like right now.

Dudes, just try it on emu. Any computer can run a GB/GBC emulator.

Is it somehow becoming hard to find? I owned a cart-only at first, until I found a complete copy in a local EBgames, of all places.

It's missing a level or two from both games, but it's about as good a version as you could hope for on the GBC. Having B&W and color versions of the first two is a nice touch, and combining them both into one big shmup was a great addition as well. The missing levels are downer, but they're not game ruining by any means.

What I really want to know is how Nintendo dropped GBC compatibility with DS. How difficult was to emulate a Z80, damn you big N. :x

Flicker ruined the game for me.

are you one of those "I want it mint complete" guys, or would you do with a loose cart? A store nearby might have one.

I'm saying "try before you buy" since we all know how bothersome it's to get rid of stuff if it blows.

Not hard to emulate, just not as stylish when a huge cart is sticking out of your DS
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

They did it for the Gameboy Advance.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

The GBA didn't emulate it, they had the processor built in.

So does the DS, I believe, but GB and GBC carts need a higher voltage than the DS was designed to output. Thus compatibility was dropped since the alternative was unfeasible.

They also didn't include as much music--just "Battle Theme", "Monster Beat", and the boss theme for R-Type I, and "Counterattack", "Water Splash", and the boss theme for R-Type II.

I should probably mention a lot of this stuff in my thread @_@;

I didn't say nearly enough about R-Type DX for it being the winning game.

I bought my R-Type DX cart in Hawaii (!) and at first I didn't like it much.

I gave it more time, though, and I was playing it pretty regularly for a while. Haven't touched it in a while, though. I think maybe R-Type 1 is the better of the games on it.

You also didn't mention that the colored version of Gradius Interstellar Assault is called Gradius II on the Konami collection.

To be even more anal, it's called Gradius II - Return of the Hero

To be so anal even a proctologist would vomit, it's called "Gradius II: The Return of the Hero."

No, I am a "I just want to play the goddamn game" guy. It could be just the internal chip, as long as the thing works with my gameboy :)

The invisble bullet syndrome renders them unplayable at later stages.
But surely you've played it by now so you already know that?

I can play it reasonable well despite the flickering. Have it in my gamecube now. 8)
