How THE OFFICIAL POLL works:
As Rob wrote:DJI makes this thread, people post their vote in this thread, DJI tallies the votes.
How to vote in THE OFFICIAL POLL:
As Rob would have wrote:1. post vote in thread
2. post before Monday 10:59am GMT (switch board clock in profile)
Follow only these directions exactly and you will have voted correctly. No need to pay attention to anything else.
If you feel like learning more about the unneeded unused unofficial poll or other voting safeguards in-place, the details are in the fine print at the bottom of this post.

*NEW* If you wish for your vote to remain unseen by others, you now have the option to PM your vote to username STGT instead of posting it in this thread.
This is known as a private vote.
To cast your vote, please put the game you are voting for IN THE SUBJECT LINE. I will include these votes with the public votes in the final results. I'll printscreen proof of all sent votes. I count only what I see in the inbox. If the inbox is filled or your vote did not submit successfully to user STGT for any reason, it will not be counted.

If you don't feel like switching your board clock, use this GMT timepiece:
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/
I will be using this clock to determine when it becomes GMT Monday morning to end the poll.

Please remember, unlike in player registration, nobody can cast public or private votes in the name of other members.

Your selections for '06 2nd Place Week are the following:

Vasara

Image
'Like an uber-cultured Gunbird or something. Ya have the tapping regular shooting, but also the melee attack which is your charge shot. Spelling the game title with collectable red gems turns the melee deal into more like a bomb....but...a "melee bomb," because you have the regular bomb button also. There's a claim in my research that you should be playing almost exclusively with your charging melee attack. Three characters to run with, medals that demand collection when they blink, bullet-grazing for extra scoring to risk with, encouraging multiple kills with the single melee attack, and "prestige kills" (bloodstained symbols in the pic) which I gathered as "kill unique enemies"...sorta like when you rescue the POWs in Metal Slug..only...you kill everything to jack an end-of-stage bonus.
Ah yes, this game is bloody....and you can find strategy on this game in the hi score forum for some reason.

Gunbird

Image
I hope you like pedophiles and gay chararacters! That is if you get the luxury of reading the storyline. This game is extremely basic and the oldest of our Psikyo choices. You got your regular shot and charge shot. Maxing out on powerup levels will time-out and lower you a level after a time. Scoring system?....er......put a big ‘x’ on that. Coins you find here and there are 200…um…getting a bomb when maxed gets youuu…10000 points? This game is as survival-friendly as it gets. Oh yeah, 5 Character choices.

No you can't use Mobile Light Force....bitch....

Section Z

Image
Flyin' through the regular alphabet as stages with a boss on E, J, O, T, & Z. This goes horizontal or vertical depending on the stage. Ya got a laser gun, grenades, various icon pickups, and a specific "turn" button to face the other way when you feel a 180 degrees coming on..

Battle Bakraid ADVANCED COURSE

Image
8 stages with ramped difficulty. The "Meat and potatoes" of the game. Bosses w/ enhanced attacks and everything else getting fiercer than normal mode.

Not Battle Garegga with better graphics. Military-themed with a Medaling system & a large enemy Chaining system for multipliers. Game is sometimes compared to the DonPachis. Training Mode is around to ease-in people who haven't played. Stage editing is also there. 9 ships to mess with, including main & secondary shots. There's multiples to collect that work like Battle Garegga. There's various configurations for these multiples and there's secret configurations to look for. There's depth and secrets to exploit that sound like they'll keep the score thread talkin' all week.

NOTE:
Battle Bakraid NORMAL & ADVANCED votes will count together in determining game choice versus the other two games.
If Bakraid wins the vote, the course choice already stated in the vote will then be tallied.

Battle Bakraid NORMAL COURSE

Image
6 Stages

Not Battle Garegga with better graphics. Military-themed with a Medaling system & a large enemy Chaining system for multipliers. Game is sometimes compared to the DonPachis. Despite from offering various secrets in the stage and the rather unusual capture system, the Darius route system offers a lot of possibilities to find the best scoring route. There will always be other possible solutions to improve your score. So this one should be your choice if you like fast paced action paired with experimenting on different scoring routes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As long as these instructions below do not confuse you with the instructions left for you to follow above, here are all the fine print additional voting rules in place to serve more as "future week-long controversy insurance" or more accurately, "In-Case Shit"

-A vote is a singular item from which you may cast once and only once via posting your choice in this thread. If you fail to cast your vote properly by breaking the rules below, it becomes a disqualified vote, forbidding you to cast again for this week. Therefore you may not disqualify your vote in the name of creating a second fresh vote.
-Only people assigned to a team on the first page of STGT 2k7 will have their votes counted.
-Even if you didn't play in a previous week, if your name is assigned to a team, you can still vote.
-If you post your vote and then edit your post, your vote is disqualified.
-If you post ANYTHING in this thread (vote or no vote) and edit that post; if you posted a vote in a later post it will still be disqualified. (an exception will be made if the person who voted claims in his voting post that he did not in-fact post his vote in his earlier edited post. Another forum member must defend this claim, which will be accepted as proof [if it passes my judgement])
-If you post your vote and then post another vote again later on, I will only use your first vote.
-If you post your vote, post another vote later, then edit or remove your first vote post and I/we catch it, your vote is disqualified and other people should point and laugh at you.
-If you post your vote, but forget to specify any required additional detail where needed (course selections, etc), make another post with the rest of your information from which you still needed to vote on. Just don't edit either post or you'll break the rules above.
-..so basically, be careful and certain when posting here 8)
*NEW* -Before disqualifying a vote that technically breaks the rules above, I will evaluate the post and date of edit for context. If I feel the change was an honest correction and not close enough to deadline to affect final tallies, I reserve the right to include that vote in the final tally.

-To stop any chances of confusion for team voting, I ask that only Individual posted votes will be counted. Nobody can 'delegate' their vote to another team member or post their vote in the name of another team member. Obviously you may pm within your team as much as you want so you all can agree which choice to go for, but all 5-7 votes from a team will not count unless I see an individual post from every team member.

THE UNOFFICIAL VOTE with the typical polling above is just for fun. I threw it there to "keep things exciting" and to keep people in-the-know what game they are going to have to acquire and get running ahead of time. The unofficial vote up-top will have no bearing on which game wins the vote.

I will advise during the poll on where the unofficial poll is terribly inaccurate, however, official results will never be released until the end of the vote.

The Tiebreaker Clause:
The poll is scheduled to end at 10:59am Monday GMT. It officially ends when I or Edge post saying the poll is over. In the event at the time of the deadline that I detect a tie between the two leading candidates OR a candidate is leading by a single vote, I will extend the voting period by two hours to leave enough time for people who have not voted yet to cast and widen the gap between the two leading game picks. Note that this is not a runoff between the two top choices. If, in-fact other game picks have close numbers with the top two choices, as long as the lesser game picks can overtake the top game choice by two votes in two hours, they too have the same chance of winning the entire poll.
After this second voting deadline has been reached, if there is still a tie or a single vote difference between the two leading game picks at the time, another two-hour extension on the voting deadline will occur.
However,
1. This time, members in teams with players that still haven't voted may cast the vote(s) on behalf of the players who didn't vote. Players who utilize this must specify the absent player he is casting the vote for in the same post as what he decided his additional vote will be.
2. This time period WILL become a run-off between ONLY the top two choices upon initiation of the second two-hour extension.
After the third and final voting deadline has been met, if there is still a voting lead of a single vote, the chosen game still wins. If there is still a tie, Edge gets to pick the winner between the two games in question.

Up-front, if the selection above just sent ya into one of yer menstrual cycles:

1. There can be only 5 game selections. '06 had 6 themed weeks.
2. I know there's six listings. Bakraid Advanced votes and Bakraid Normal votes will be added together when compared against the rest of the games. It is up to each user to specify the course desired in the same vote as he/she voted for Bakraid. If Bakraid is chosen, the course votes will be added up and we play that course. No runoff votes on course selection for people who voted for completely different games. But tiebreaker clause applies if we run into one.
3. Progear. Basically, we're enforcing that we don't play 2 weeks of anything from the same developer. With that said, you and I both know there'd be far, far more bitching if no Cave were available for Famous Manic Week. Cave is a far better candidate for a finale of a tournament like this anyway. Also, we figure Progear would easily win in this lineup. We like level-ground for our selection and discourage pre-practice.*

I'll play stunt-double for Edge this week. I take full responsibility for whatever game selection bitching, honest faults, or whiny old-man ranting complaining you can come up with.

Also, we have 2 other threads for you to debate and discuss game selection. Please use them instead of trollin'-up this one. Thank you much.

[edit] Twiddle convinced me to cancel my vote.
Progear was really the only game I wanted to play this week.

Darius Gaiden. I'm decent at it, I really enjoy it, I can play it with my comfy Saturn controller (which would be nice considering I hurt my left hand), and lastly, I actually own it... twice :D

...

Well, I own Gunbird as well via Mobile Light Force on the PS1, but I think DG is a better game.

I hope you are not judging by that port 'cause it is total shit. And not in a GWG or Ibara way. The SNES Raiden Trad kind of way.

I know the story, cinemas and such are gone, but how was the gameplay changed?

I'm torn between Vasara and Gunbird, but, since I'm looking forward to 5+ pages of moaning and bitching, my vote goes to Gunbird.

Can I ask the obvious question of where 2nd place from Cave week is? I'll go ahead and point out that just like in week one, it's pretty stupid to have the exact same game listed twice. Even more so when you've left one out. Oh, well. It's not like the good game will ever get chosen anyway.

Oh that. That's just the goofy screen option they stuck you with. I thought you were talking about having gameplay elements completely altered and removed. It still plays like the Gunbird series (and a Psikyo game in general), but the characters and such never appealed to me.

(Not a vote)

Since there are ports on some of the choices, what ports would be allowed? Capcom Classics Collection for Section Z? Gunbird 1+2 (or Gunbird Special Edition, the PAL equivalent), SAT/PS1 ports? Taito Memories/Legends for Darius Gaiden? Etc.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

SNES Raiden Trad kind of way is more like missing details, choppy graphics, and enemies. Gunbird PSX's (either US or JP) main problem is that it's stuck in a screen mode that's not ideal. Both crippled ports, but not in the same way IMO. Still, the PSX version of Gunbird is definitely not the ideal version.

So the main question why to exclude Progear from this week was:

Predictable game selection (and possible vote-winner)

vs

Giving the masses some of their favourite action.

That's a difficult choice anyway, since there are probably a fair amount of people who are really experienced in Progear who would certainly battle out the top spots this week among themselves. On the other hand, the STGT is suppossed to make everyone play games for score they usually don't. Offcourse famous games are part of that, because there are also a lot of people who never really tried to get into famous games like DDP.
That said I personally might have included Progear, though DJI's deccission makes perfect sense to me. The whole point of this event is to play "randomly" chosen games for the timeframe of a week. If it becomes too predictable it's spoiling the fun of the spontanous nature of this event.

BTW, shortly after officially announced I myself started to think that the '06 2nd Week choice probably wasn't the best choice. Maybe a '06 2nd-5th place Week would have been better. So to include one losing game from 5 of the 6 weeks last year. This would have been less predictable and the organizers would have more options to balance the game selection for the poll.
