There's also a Star Soldier for PSP.

That's not it. There are shmups in both Capcom Classics Remixed and Reloaded. Remixed has 1941, Side Arms, Forgotten Worlds, Last Duel, Section Z, the shooter in 3 Wonders, Legendary Wings, and Varth. Reloaded has Eco Fighters, Gun.Smoke, 1942, 1943, 1943 Kai, and Vulgus. Namco Museum Battle has an updated version of Galaga in it along with the original Galaga, Galaxian, Xevious, and Bosconian.

to run the major hombrew in the PSP, right now you need the older model of it, and put any of the custom firmwares in it (the latest one, 3.52 M33 its pretty good imo)... the latest model of the PSP (PSP Slim n Lite or whatever its called) can use a CF called 3.6 M33, but not every emu can be run in it, so you've gotta wait.

If you get Star Soldier you should know that you have to hold the system tate style, which I could never get used to. wouldn't try to do it in public either.

I love playing tate style. That's how I play DDP and Noiz2sa (another one to add to the list). It just seems really comfortable, although if you're trying to use the analog nub I can see how that would be a problem.

downgrading and custom firmwares are quite safe as long as you follow the directions exactly.

Does the new PSP Slim output well on TV output?

I asked both Game Crazy and GameStop if they had gotten their shipment of the new PSP Slim variants: Gamestop said that they haven't recieved their intial shipment yet and awaiting word as to when to start selling it to the public -- Game Crazy said today, 9-11-2007, that they have the Silver colored PSP Slim with Daxter UMD game packaged deal for a mere $199.99 USD. I said I might have to consider it... ^_~

I asked both speciality game shop retailers if the "Piano Black" colored PSP Slim was going to be released as a seperate PSP package by itself without any UMD game -- the response was that they didn't know about the current release date of that particular version of PSP Slim as of right now...

SCEA promised that the "Piano Black" colored PSP Slim variant would be available for purchase in the USA on 9/10/2007 (which was yesterday, Monday)...have they not kept up with their word regarding releasing the newest PSP Slim handheld or what?

And how is the TV hookup of your new PSP Slim? Is it better than what you thought it would be? (Of course, the PSP's resolution stands at 480 x 242 on it's 16:9 widescreen LCD-based screen.)

Is DDP the ps1 version? I tried this one on my psp but the game freeze on a white "now loading" screen after the ship select. Same thing happens if I try this with ePsx... works fine on my ancient Ps1 tho.

I've downgraded my PSP as well as several friends...no bricks yet.

Furthermore, even if you do somehow brick your PSP, there is a utility called Pandora's Box that you can use to unbrick any PSP.

God Puzzle Quest is great...

Get that mod done! You'll love it! Throw in one of those stick-on covers so you don't have to deal with the broken cross and it's all good.

SCEI sells PSP Slim A/V adapter cable for TV hookup

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Okay, here's what I found out at my local Target store, they are selling the Silver colored Daxter bundled package with a 1GB memory stick pro duo card included for a mere $199.99 (a very good bargin IMO).

Anyways, this new Playstation Portable Slim model is the PSP-2000 model and it does indeed support the TV output option. The catch is that you have to shell out extra $$$ for the optional A/V cable adapter so you may play/watch your favorite UMD-based entertainment whether it be games, movies or music videos. The I/O interface of this new PSP TV adapter cable looks exactly like how the stereo headphone adapter with remote interface for the original PSP model does. It is an official SCEI released PSP Slim A/V cable, of course.

The only downside of this official PSP Slim A/V cable is that it's the plain vanilla RCA Composite Video with both Left & Right Stereo input jacks -- I was hoping for S-Video or Component Video outputs at least or even HDMI interface. Oh well, at least I now know how the PSP Slim outputs it's audio/video content... ^_~

There is a Component A/V cable available for the PSP slim, I bought it.

For Savory,

Thanks for the heads up about the PSP Component A/V cable setup, and how is the output with that particular setup? Feel free to elaborate...

And does it display in 480i and/or 480p modes? ^_~

Unfortunately, I've been so busy this week I haven't done more than plug it in to see if it worked. It displays in 480p (I'm pretty certain) with a very large black border around the image. I played the Twin Bee collection for a few minutes and it looked great.

I'll do some more extensive testing tonight and post better impressions.

Played around with the TV Out some more. The giant black border is annoying. I have a 37" LCD and the border is a little thicker than black bars you'd see on the sides of 4:3 picture on widescreen, except all the way around. Then again, if it stretched to fit, it'd probably look worse.

2D games like the Konami shmup collections seemed to fare better than 3D, but I guess I shouldn't expect much from a 480p picture. Oh, it's definitely 480p too. The PSP has an option to do interlaced, but it wouldn't let me output the picture if I set it to that, maybe due to the component cables? You also have the option of displaying the output in 4:3 or 16:9. I played Monster Hunter Freedom 2 which is probably one of the best looking PSP games and it didn't look so hot on a TV screen.

When in TV output, just flick the power switch and it transfers back to the PSP screen. Audio still outputs to the TV so that's kind of nice if you want to play it through a stereo if you have one hooked up.

I love the new buttons and dpad on the slim, but I'd still kill for an adapter to use a PS2 controller on it. It feels weird to be playing it on TV, but still using the PSP for controls.

In my opinion it's a neat bonus feature, but nothing more. I wouldn't base a purchase on it or dump an old PSP for the new one just for TV Out.

Just curious, did you DIY or send it in? I sort of don't want to be arsed and might send mine in to be done by that one dude.

I did mine myself, though using a much easier method. Rather that use a disk like the UFX mod, I simply layered 4 pieces of tape on top of each other and cut out four squares which were then stuck to the underside of each direction. There's no glue, they don't slip, and performance is improved greatly.....and you can vary sensitivity by adding/removing layers.
