More like around 1/6th of the way towards a Ketsui PCB (assuming a $130 DS and a $45 Ketsui DS). They go for around $950 these days, not $750. That is, of course, if you can find one.icycalm wrote:OR, you could think of it this way: if you save the money you'd spent for a DS and the Ketsui port you are one-third of the way towards owning the PCB.
Ketsui for DS?!

My DS lite pad also needs to be pressed very hard. Doing stuff like snaking in Mariokart is really exhausting to my thumb. I guess they just saved some cents on the button quality because hey, everybody is going to use the touchscreen, right? Still I wonder how Nintendo went from something as good as the SNES d-pad or the clicky GBA SP one to something on the level of a MADCATZ PS2 d-pad.Arvandor wrote:By brick DS do you mean the non-lite DS? Because I actually really like the d-pad on the original DS. It's the lite that has the wonky diagonal problem. And I don't think taping a quarter to it would work. Maybe a dime? But even still I think the d-pad might be too close to being flush with the actual DS for that to work. I suppose it'd be worth a shot though.ZeetherKID77 wrote:For those of you who hate the brick DS' D-pad: Tape a quarter onto it. Diagonals will work perfectly.
THE BULLETS ARE NOW DIAMONDS!

Well, I for one am looking forward to this very much. I need a really good shmup for my DS (Nanostray was decent, but the scoring system was broken and those invisible borders sucked), and this looks like it'll be really good.
And though I tend to decry Cave... I must confess I do enjoy Dangun Feveron.
Though I still think the ESPs and 'Pachis are garbage.

If Cave changed their games up as much as Nintendo did Mario you might have a point...Zebra Airforce wrote:I feel the same way about mario. I played the first one, didn't get it. I'm sure the rest of the series sucks also.Oh, I just don't like the general gameplay, bullet patterns, enemies, music, level designs, etc. of the 'Pachis and whatever ESP game I have on Mame.
As is, you do not.
But this isn't a Cave bash. This is a "Yay Ketsui for DS!" celebration. So... my opinions are my opinions and me thinks you should leave it at that.
Note: And as I understand it, ESP Ra De is the good best one in the series, which is the one I played and did not enjoy at all.

FYI Espgaluda and Espgaluda II play almost nothing like Esprade.jp wrote:

Gotta love Jp's insightful opinions on Cave games. He bases all his opinions around the few games he's played in Mame and DDP on the Saturn, and makes blanket statements about newer stuff based solely on that expert knowledge.

Yes EOJ. I've only played Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Pro gear, Dangun Feveron, ESP Ra De, Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou, Guwange, and... that might be it.
And lets see, I haven't played what? Espgaluda, Mushi, Ibara, and Ketsui?
HMMMMMM... 8 games I have played vs. 4 I haven't. Gee.
Ironically, I even said I was looking forward to playing Ketsui and said I liked Pro Gear and Dangun. I only said I didn't like the 'Pachis (which I played all of) or the ESP game I have.
Thank you for being incompetent.

Oh, well that would explain it then. I wasn't too terribly impressed from what I played of ESP Ra. De. in MAME either, but ESPgaluda still stands as quite possibly my favorite shooter. Despite being quite a bit on the easy side (trying to score will fix that up right quick, and the scoring system is nice and flexible).
Jp, you must admit that initially you kind of blanketed the Pachi's and the ESP's like you hated all of them. I can understand your dislike for all the games you HAVE played, but you effectively stated you don't like ESPgaluda or ESPgaluda2, neither of which you've actually played.

It was my understanding (from this very board no less) that ESPGaluda wasn't as good as ESP Ra De, ergo, I figured it sucked worse (I believe the sentiment was that the art was lacking, the music wasn't as good, and it was too easy, therefore, it was safe for me to assume I would not like it since I didn't like the other one anyways). I was unaware there was a sequel to ESPGaluda though, since I typically don't care about what Cave is doing.
But, I will say it again, and maybe someone listen:

Amusingly enough, my comments were meant to portray that I didn't dislike Cave so much anymore. But this isn't a Cave bash. This is a "Yay Ketsui for DS!" celebration. So... my opinions are my opinions and me thinks you should leave it at that.

You're missing Espgaluda II, Ibara Black Label, Pink Sweets, Mushihime-sama Futari, Mushihime-same Futari ver 1.5, and Muchi Muchi Pork. But nice try.jp wrote:

BTW most people consider Espgaluda superior to Esprade (I know I do).

I realize it's not a Cave bash, I was just kind of curious as to why you don't like ESPgaluda. Now I know that you only ASSUME you won't like it. Which, whatever, I won't bug you about it. It IS a fine game though in my opinion, and far superior to Ra. De.
I too am excited for Ketsui DS. It'll be nice to have a good shooter on the go that isn't Nanostray. Which is fun and all, just... terribly sub-par.

I love your ability to put words in my mouth.EOJ wrote:Right on! I haven't played anything they've put out in the past 4-5 years, but ESPrade on MAME told me all those newer games suck anyway! Yeah!!eight wrote:CAVE SUCKS!
That, or your complete inability to understand what you are reading.
I just said I didn't like the 'Pachs or ESP Ra De. Which I don't. I'm sorry that gets your Cave fanboy panties in a twist.

WHAT FUCKING UNDERSTANDING?jp wrote:It was my understanding (from this very board no less) that ESPGaluda wasn't as good as ESP Ra De
Shouldn't you base your "understanding" on your OWN experience?
Personally I prefer Galuda over RaDe and I know plenty of people that fall in the same category. But I guess I understand people on this forum think otherwise so it MUST be true.
Opinion is fact, courtesy of jp.
(edit: I just realized this post is very ambiguous, take it as you will)
