Quit pissing all over my glee!Dave.K wrote:The graphics already look quite lowres compared to the PCB, I'd guess this is what it will look like on the DS.
I don't own a DS, so I don't know what its capabilities are, but watching that movie (and owning the PCB) this looks pretty scaled down with the animations and such. The scoring system looks screwed up with those 5 boxes poping out with every single fire....something wrong there. The bullet patterns are also extremely slow, but probably due to the horizontal aspect ratio to make it easier.
Ketsui for DS?!

Yeah. Taking these limitations into account they HAVE to make it easier. Remembering the DOOM clip from sometime ago, all the dodges were non-diagonals.dmauro wrote:dpad + tiny screen versus joystick and monitormsm wrote:and the bit where there's a few deaths in the video is quite easy in the arcade version

New Super Mario Bros. has a game where you have to drag a bob-omb out of the way of fireballs, and survive as long as you can. Eventually more and more start appearing. That was one of my favorites.
Obviously would be a pretty crappy full game, but it would be a cool homebrew demo or mini-game having to draw a line through bullet hell, maybe with the same thing on top and bottom so you could see where you were going.

An amazing game indeed, it has a hitbox and everything. It's a shmup, basicly. And i'm hoping the upcoming Geometry Wars Galaxies can expand on this.szycag wrote:New Super Mario Bros. has a game where you have to drag a bob-omb out of the way of fireballs, and survive as long as you can. I'm not saying the idea is bad--it's fucking horrible. People's hands would get in the way and cause them to be killed by shitloads of hidden bullets (behind their hands.) I'm playing Zelda: mugen no sunadokei now and my hand gets in the way all the time. It's not such a huge problem with Zelda tho, since it's a challenge to die.Vokatse wrote:IDK if anybody else mentioned this, but it would be pretty interesting if you could control the player with the touchscreen.

Likewise. I was going to post how I creamed myself when I watched the video, as even a mediocre portable shooter would make me absurdly happy (I even like Nanostray for being portable), and this game looks anything but mediocre. But I instead ended up responding to your post. My short-term memory is like the Navy. Always coming and going.
Name that movie quote for a cookie! I watched it the other night on laserdisc
I never realized how aful that movie is, but... I still like it =)

OR, you could think of it this way: if you save the money you'd spent for a DS and the Ketsui port you are one-third of the way towards owning the PCB.
Of course you might have already bought a DS for Nintendogs and that game that's supposed to make you less dumb, but, hey, if you sell these too you get even closer to the PCB!
Then you could also sell your copies of Milestone's ports, and Trizeal, and Exelica after you've had enough swinging fun, and you'd be almost there. Or something.

Yes, because the only games on DS are nintendogs and brain age.icycalm wrote:OR, you could think of it this way: if you save the money you'd spent for a DS and the Ketsui port you are one-third of the way towards owning the PCB.

Why do you keep saying this? Arika is apparently still printing / selling brand new copies of espgaluda & DDPDOJ. Or are you using some strange definition of "new"? Even if you mean "new" as in "released this year", cave has released soundtracks for games in 2007. There are plenty of ways for you to give your money to cave w/o shelling out on a $1k arcade kit . . . or buying a ds game.DJ Rectal Prolapse wrote: Exactly. Already bought 'em second hand innit. Actually come to think of it, my Taito Best re-issue of Mushihimesama was new. OST's are tempting, but they're for games I've never played, let alone heard. But yeah, I'm just flapping my gums. You win.cody wrote:Why do you keep saying this? Arika is apparently still printing / selling brand new copies of espgaluda & DDPDOJ. By brick DS do you mean the non-lite DS? Because I actually really like the d-pad on the original DS. It's the lite that has the wonky diagonal problem. And I don't think taping a quarter to it would work. Maybe a dime? But even still I think the d-pad might be too close to being flush with the actual DS for that to work. I suppose it'd be worth a shot though.ZeetherKID77 wrote:For those of you who hate the brick DS' D-pad: Tape a quarter onto it. Diagonals will work perfectly.
