Conference of the Birds? I remember you saying awhile back it was the second one. [/quote]PaCrappa wrote: Om (I forget the name) My brother burnt me this and I really need to get me some sort of legit copy because I really like it.

When I finally heard Revolver earlier this year (yep) I was disappointed because I was expecting something to rival the best Beach Boys or Zombies material. Some solid singles and then some crappy experimentation/filler (sitar always sounds tacky to me in a pop context). I can't remember how many songs are on the White Album, but there were a lot and they were all about the same length. Aside from songs like Julia and Helter Skelter there wasn't much variation or memorable material.professor ganson wrote:More than Revolver through White Album??? Abby Road, the White Album, Revolver... I don't think there's a solo album that comes anywhere close to these. But then I haven't heard the McCartney albums, just the singles.Rob wrote: I like the first few years of solo albums more.
Abbey Road is definitely my favorite, but it is really a mixed bag. Could do without the Ringo song(s). Octopus's Garden, agh. The Lennon and Harrison songs really stand out, and it is those two whose solo albums I enjoy (I'd also lump in Yoko Ono's just because). I don't think I'd enjoy McCartney's solo albums that much so I haven't bothered (yet!).

I'm not the biggest Beatles fan, but I'm definitely a Revolver type guy over any Beach Boys, even Pet Sounds or Smiley Smile. I can see the sitar thing but I'm sure it sounded cool at the time, it's not their fault bands like Pearl Jam and stuff ran it into the ground. I'm also a sucker for tape loops. :/
Even if none of the songs jump at you, it still benefits from being great to listen to front to back. It's an album for people who like albums...
IMHO

That is Galactic Dancing
Damn...as always...listening to great albums that haven't been released yet.

I'm sorry for spamming--it just ultimately ends up being what I listen to (promos from bands.)
I'm really not posting to sell here; I have a serious enthusiasm for music and when I hear something really kick ass, I just want to write about it.
Oh, and half the time I'm listening to said music I've had a few so don't use the restraint I should.
So to try to pull myself out of asshole-dom, I'll add to this if anyone wants a cd-r of something or a direction to some links of what I'm talking about, pm me. Hell, I'll probably throw in a few free cds; the old stuff doesn't sell.
Mostly fixated on NZ (as usual) and some new stuff from Italy which is very gentle Brian Eno-ish/Labradforish kind of stuff, but more experimental than both. Listening to an album that is the Renderers and Sandoz Lab Technicians freely hybridizing (both NZ bands, one country-ish, one free-improv); ends up sounding like the perfect soundtrack for Lynch's new Inland Empire film.
Yeah, not trying to be an outsider. Anyone who wants to hear, I've always been an enabler
That said, I appreciate your offer to do this bit of spamming Pacrappa. I'll make no more mention of the label--though sometimes the unreleased albums--those are the best ones!!

I have a track up for most of the releases I've released on my web site at www.lastvisibledog.com. I really recommend the people give a listen to the opening track from the new Terminals album (http://www.lastvisibledog.com/audio/116.mp3); even if you don't give a damn about the rest of the music I put out, I feel like the terminals are a must hear, bringing together that good-old post VU sound and fashion when everyone wore sun glasses, smoked and it people listened to (and understood) Neil Young's Tonight's the night.pacrappa wrote: As far as I'm concerned CMoon, your next post in this thread should be spamming it up with links to the bands on your label. If you only did it once nobody would think you were a carpetbagger. I know I'm curious to hear some of it.

Re: Beatles (sorry for double post): Glad to see the love for the Magical Mystery Tour album which is generally written off. I think it is because I found this record in my mother's collection as a young child and really hadn't heard any other music like it before when I gave it a spin. That first side still holds something for me and is more rugged and strange than all the experimentalism on sgt. peppers and the white album. That said, the white album is an easy second for me, and while it has a lot of misses, it is so big, and hits so often, there just isn't much to complain about. That said, the last song is absolute shit, isn't it?
