@segasonicfan

It's ARIKA, not akira. Where does it say that Cave is developing the DS version? Take a chill pill mate...

You're quite wrong (almost comically so). Cave has nothing to do with this, as I and others have stated over and over. It's completely Mihara's creation (he works for Arika, not Cave). Arika did the DDP:DOJ and Espgaluda ports by themselves too, Cave did nothing in those.

For the billonth-rillionth time, Nintendo bought out Cave and they're devoting all of their resources to making new versions of every shooter made starting with Ketsui.

Begin the game with everything... play through until the end of level 1... lose all power-ups.

Or...

Start with nothing and sequence break the shit out of the game.

Be careful when bombing as the blast will push you up towards the top of the screen!

The second loop is a backtrack trough all of the levels while you try and avoid the falling debris from the destruct sequence.

Just buy the PCB people, it's not that hard to find and it's going up in value so you can always resell it later to get your money back. Not to mention ports suck, and good for Cave for not caring about them.
b/c i can't afford to drop 1200.00 right now and when I do the value will be even higher.

and DOJ and ESPgaluda.... I have a hard time saying they suck port wise.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Anyone that has played them, the original, and has an even remote sense of what a clue is, would.

All the PS2 ports of Cave stuff are excellent and spot-on, with the exception of maybe some minor gripes with Ibara... sucks Arika set the bar so high for themselves

Ibara & Mushi ports are not really minor gripes. They're playable, but if you've played the PCBs quite a bit they are hard to stomach.

Seriously.
I started Ibara's arcade mode. The music never came on, and I flew at high speed over the entire first level, which was covered by empty black spots. It essentially skipped right to the first boss before the music even came on and it finally said "Stage 1" on the screen.

I wouldn't say Mushi is BROKEN, like Ibara, but it can be pretty irritating.

Were you playing it on a modded system? I've never heard of any problems like that when playing on a JP PS2. I had the game and it never had such glitches on my JP PS2.

The Ibara port is the absolute worst one out there, the mushi one is second (but is markedly better). Espgaluda is actually better on PS2 than PCB (not to mention the Arrange mode). DDP: DOJ is excellent as well, though I haven't seen enough of the PCB to compare it.

Yes, the arrange mode was Arika's creation, not Cave's.

You know, I was using a swapdisc. Perhaps that's the problem? I was thinking of getting the HDLoader and installing it. It just seems to be having an error loading it so I figured it would load much more easily (and quickly!) from the hard drive.

Well, cave hires artists freelance, so if Arika wanted they could just hire them for a couple more characters. And I'm sure they probably have some talented in-house artists as well.

I've gotten a lot of strange bugs in Ibara on a japanese PS2 (including the one Zebra decides). I think this has to do with if the laser is bad, since (if I haven't completely missunderstood) a lot of the game data is streamed.

In case anyone still doubts that Arika is developing this, check out the title screen of the DS Ketsui game:

It says it right there.

The DOJ box says the same thing. Anyway, Mihara says the movie may be late. Also, something I found amusing:
とりあえず、フルレンダリングするので4時間お休み。
("Anyway, doing a full rendering so 4 hour break.")
So he gets to slack off because of compiling _and_ because of rendering. Lucky bastard.
