So I got a PS2 today.
I finally bought a PS2 today, along with EspGaluda and Mushihime sama. Both great games, and I was wondering if there are other good shooters for the PS2 you could recommend me?
I'm new to this forum by the way. Hi.

Ha! Never let that bias your opinion! Better getting Raiden Project/DX instead. (at least, imo)splitblkribbon wrote:Raiden III is on the ps2 and i've heard good things about it (despite the fact i've yet to play it)

Yeah, don't let this guy bias your opinion either. Even though none of us really like Raiden III, you should check it out anyway. If people don't buy US ports of mediocre games, they'll never port ANYTHING over here.Zebra Airforce wrote:Don't let this guy bias your opinion. The PS2 sells because its an insurance policy. System and games cost a small fraction of todays offerings, games are still being released for it and they also look about 80% as good as a PS3 game in SD mode.
The only reason to get a nextgen console is to be online, be a flash bastard or to see how many XB360 systems you can blow up before any decent games come out for it.

Na, I got a (pre-owned) European PS2, but with an internal HDD. I can install games from any region on itill6 wrote:Hes in Europe... Presume its a Jap PS2.CMoon wrote: If people don't buy US ports of mediocre games, they'll never port ANYTHING over here.
I didn't have the cash to buy a PS3, and didn't really feel the need either. The only game I'd really like to play when it comes out is FF13.

Yeah, I wanted to see it too... nearly all were '2.0' kills!... A few < 2.0; so he can still improve!Shatterhand wrote:GODDAMN, I wanted to see the guy's score at the end of the level, but then the video cuts it :/ He was owning the level.j^aws wrote:http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 717#270717

get dodonpachi for PS1 along with Ibara on PS2. then get ESPgaluda and DOJ and realize how bad other ports are when compared to them.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Gradius V is my favorite shooter on the PS2. If you like Treasure(Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga), it's like Gradius filtered through them. That's exactly what it's like, actually. It's also longer than any shooter i've played on the PS2(around an hour/7 stages). So, you get your money's worth.
Other than that, I like Ibara. Galuda's good too, but I see you already have that.
I didn't care for R-Type Final. Lame stage design IMHO.
I also wasn't a fan of DoDonPachi DOJ(kooky difficulty was beyond me), but a lot of people really like it.
Enjoy.

I made this mistake for a while too. Get gradius V even if you don't like gradius. It's got a smaller hitbox, and although it isn't a bullet curtain shmup, it's got a lot going on. The directional laser option type makes it feel like a totally different game as well.Shion wrote:I'm not a big fan of the Gradius series. If you have not played Gradius V, try it. Its the only hori I play anymore, its got an incredible atmosphere with thumping soundtrack, mettalic looking waves of enemies, bosses that require alot of patience.Shion wrote:I'm not a big fan of the Gradius series. I got to the last boss of Mushihime sama (arrange) today. I had like two lives left, so was hoping for a good shot. I got completely destroyed
The meterorite level is just bonkers, if you didn't have a small hitbox it would be impossible.

I have to echo what everyone else has said. Even if you don't like Gradius, definitely give V a chance anyway. It's a totally different beast. It has a smaller hitbox, and probably the best level design i've seen. As stated, it's not manic, but there is a ton of stuff going on. Much more than any other sidescroller i've played.Shion wrote:I'm not a big fan of the Gradius series. It's not that they're bad games, but I prefer more bullets and smaller hitboxes myself. I didn't pick this up 'til years after it came out, because i'm not a fan of Gradius. But when I heard it was made by Treasure, I gave it a look, and was blown away.

i bought a PS2 Slim yesterday, and modded it, so i can play imports... now im waiting for Ibara, Gradius V and ESP Galuda to come to my door step so i can nail them ... cant wait. i was pretty reluctant about buyin the freakin console, but truth be told, even tho the DC has some pretty darn good shmups on it (from my POV anyway), the PS2 has the CAVE stuff that i've been willin to play for sometime, so i just had to get one... and so i did.
thx for the advice of the games to get... i really needed that list.
