EOJ wrote:Reviewing 1.0 is pretty much a waste of time at this point. While the PCB is still out there are some arcades, it's pretty much obsolete. The competitive players in Japan only play 1.5, and the scoring systems are fundamentally different as in 1.5 they boosted the proximity factor, they added the ketsui-ish "hold C and press A when the chaining bar is red to get max large gems" feature in Maniac mode, made bosses milkable, added an Ultra mode, tweaked the strengths of the characters, etc. Futari 1.5 is an absolute masterpiece of a game, and the Ultra mode is the hardest (non-looping) shooter ever created.

Actually I think Image Fight is technically harder than anything Cave has ever put out.

EOJ wrote:I could do a Futari 1.0 review, but I'm not sure I'm so interested in that. A combined 1.0/1.5 review might be better (they'd each be scored separately within the review, of course). That's probably what I'll end up doing.
The thing is that I really want separate reviews of the two versions, and besides it's technically impossible for me to attach two scores to one review on my website.

So what I will do is sit down and write a review of 1.0 some time next week, and you can look it over and point out any errors if you want before I post it. I think I have played the game enough to form an opinion anyway. To be honest, I even relish the opportunity of doing some real finger-pointing in a Cave STG review for a change, instead of the usual nitpicking.

At the bottom of the review I'll add a note clarifying that I am talking about the initial release, and I'll also say that a review of the improved 1.5 version is forthcoming. And then in that review you can go ahead and draw up as many comparisons between 1.5 and 1.0 as you wish. The two reviews will also be crosslinked, to make sure that no one stumbles onto one of them without being aware of the other.

Awesome news if Icy and EOJ can collaborate on a Futari review!
