I hate to say it, but I have to agree on that.

How could a game of that type..... or ANY of Cave's games for that matter...... possibly be doable on that thing?

Dont get me wrong, I like the DS alot, I have one myself, use it often.....

But, it's just not really made for shmupping, at least not for ports of arcade games.

If there's gonna be shmups on it, they need to be the type designed specifically for it, or it just wont work.

And unfortunately, there really arent many of those.......

Remember, this isn't a port. It's a "re-mix" or whatever. Hopefully it has been redesigned with the ds in mind.

If this actually comes out, I think it's pretty awesome. Who wouldn't want to whip out Ketsui DS when on a bus, train, or airplane? I wouldn't sit around at home playing it, but for $40 or whatever, it would be well worth it for some travel-time entertainment, Cave-style.

EDIT: I just read Mihara's newest blog entry. This game IS coming out soon. Unbelievably awesome. Here are some pictures from the incomplete version:

http://sazanami.net/#20070902

It shows you fight the stage 3 midboss, and at the end of the level it shows your level stats. The high score on there is 129mil!

DS GOTY!!

Between this and Contra 4, will you handheld haters please stop griping and pick up a DS :) It's really great here in handheld world, here Sonic is only halfway as good as he was in the Genesis days, but that's way better than totally worthless. I don't even have to mention Castlevania...

Is it still a boss rush sort of game, or did they expand on that?

As far as I understand it, it won't stay a Boss Rush game.

well, fuck...this may be the best reason i've had to even care about the DS. Hopefully if this goes over well(which I doubt, but still) maybe Arika will get to work on porting Ketsui to the Wii.
BTW, DS games are region free, right?

Just another great thing about handhelds! Even the original Game Boy was region free.

we get this.... but no PS2 port?! how lame is that, I could have easily delt with some extra slowdown ect. i'd take a less than perfect port on a real console versus a not perfect port on the DS???

what the hell is arika's train of thought on doing a DS versus PS2 port? i thought it was b/c that guy was a perfectionest but now that really must not be the case....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Ketsui DS is not a port of Ketsui. It's a portable game with boss fights and other stuff from ketsui. And the reasons why Ketsui PS2 wouldn't work have been talked about ad nauseum.

Anyway, we just have to wait for Mihara's announcement on friday. No telling what it could be, could be more than just Ketsui DS (a full Wii port of Ketsui? Wouldn't that be nice).

ok, now instead of byuing the expensive ketsui pcb, i´ll get this DS-thingy, and order a mushi pcb

GREAT, NOW I CAN HAVE 2 GENIOUS CAVE GAMES, NO MATTER IF THAT DS-GAME IS A BIG JOKE IN A COMPARISON TO THE PCB AND CANCELED PS2 VERSION.

*looks at his DS with wet eyes*

This is the best news i've heard for ages. My advice to all is keep an eye on Play Asia: I have a feeling this might well sell out very quickly... I like the fact it's now unofficially 'Ketsui DS' rather than 'Black Label'. While a full port would be folly, I still think the DS is capable of producing somthing more than a boss rush.

Here are some differences between Ketsui and Ketsui DS mentioned on that page:

1)There are now gold chips you collect, which act as an additional (larger?) multiplier. They are still numbered like the regular green chips (and of course the green chips are still in there).

2)There is an autobomb feature. Basically if you have any bombs in stock and you get hit, ALL of your bombs go off, leaving you with no bombs left, but the trade-off is it saves you from losing a life.

3)So far, all 5 end of stage boss fights from Ketsui are in it, plus the stage 3 midboss and Doom.

off topic: Hey EOJ, what happened to TWE?

On Topic: I had a dream about this game a while ago, and I woke up and thought 'man, that was a cool dream, too bad it probably won't happen'. Then I saw this update and now I'm pumped.

My only (slight) worry is that the DS D Pad won't be up to the job. I've been practicing for ages on Bullet Hell GBA in tate mode and Recca on PocketNES, but diagonals are still pretty tricky for me, and often I find myself limited to the X and Y axis. I just hope I'm blaming my tools :(

I guess I'll buy this to show demand for Ketsui. If this title sells at least decently, Ketsui may also be going somewhere else (Wii?). Problem is that Sony and Microsoft may not want a straight up port of Ketsui on their current gen systems outside of PSN/XBLA unless the graphics were re-rendered for HD.

It seems auto-bombing is OK on the stage 3 mid boss as far as getting the 1UP.

from Babelfish translation- "Speaking honestly, we want the lever, is, but it is designed in such a way that it can be operated sufficiently with the cruciform key"

I'd rather not have to use the cross key. That sort of D-Pad is the worst, especially the broken one on a PSP (screw the analog nub for shmups, also). This is one time I wish there was a mini-joystick for DS, similar to Arkanoid DS' paddle which goes in the GBA cart slot- hell, maybe even a D-Pad cover like the one that came with the Japanese version of PSP Tekken Dark Resurrection.

It's a shame there wasn't a RAM expansion made for the PS2, similar to the Saturn's 4 MB cart. If stages 1-4 were pulled off without a hitch, then doubling the RAM to 64 MB probably could've nailed it.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
