Aren't we voting for the game that will be the best in such a tournament, or are we voting for the most painful game on the lists?

Too true, but it'll be a softened blow. Anyway it's not the winning, it's the taking part!
I doubt it's a coincidence that the less able players have voted heavily for VP1. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Looks like it. I thought I had a plausible theory on my hands there for a minute

They're voting for the game they don't have to put in any effort in to bump up to the next place.

I'm stoked anyway, expect the second place game to get an ST thread shortly after this voting period is over.

Is it really that inconcievable that some people like this game?

Even if it does make for some gihugous gaps in the score table (with me being in the bottom tier), I'd rather play the game I'm going to have the most fun with, win or lose.

Vote get: Raiden Fighters Jet

I like it, but I'd rather play RFJ this week. I don't ultimately mind which one we play though. :)

I do like it. That's the only reason I chose it. I was just trying to make some sense of the voting up to now.

VP1 is a good game, however it is by far the worst choice for a scoring tournament because there is little effort involved in getting a high score. The pacing is slow (and a far cry from what preceded it, Raiden DX, as well as what followed it, the RFs). And unlike the RFs where you can miss one or two scoring opportunities and still come out with a good score, you miss ONE enemy or ground target in VP1 and you lose 90% of your stage score right there.

People who have been vocal about RFJ - and have voted RFJ - up to now prefer it because it can lead to a good scoring week for all players. Granted both will cause frustration, and you'll still get big gaps in the scoring table between those with experience and skill over those who don't have either, but the frustration of RFJ is far less than what VP1 can and will cause.

That, and the same amount of time it takes to clear 3 levels of VP1, you could have rolled off one who credit of RFJ (5, maybe 6 stages).

Add to that the RFJ scoring system that rewards more risky play and good creation of strategy, and you'll see why people have wanted and will vote RFJ over VP1.

VP1 is a huge step backward for Seibu, only marginally better than RI and RII. Even RIII is a better game for pace and scoring. And I don't know about you, but I'd rather play something that can keep my interest held constantly, over something that will give me narcolepsy.

It also takes risk taking to get the most medals in VP1.

That clears it up, thanks. I have virtually zero play-time on any of these games so I just had a quick 30 minutes on each and made a decision there and then.

No one will care when the 100% bonus makes up a very significant portion of your score.

And it takes risks to destroy all of the enemies. Hell, it's a risk just to try and grab a powerup in VP1!

The same could be said of all Seibu games.

Yup. He's gonna win again anyway. My only concern is getting to stage 6.

Don't assume that, it makes the competition less fun for me. I'm human just like everyone else. :-/ Anyone is capable of beating me.

Wait 6-10 minutes (4 if you have a Core 2 Duo 6850 and press the turbo key) until counter goes down to 000. Then set JP1 dipswitch to ON and reset MAME.
Just cause i'm a n00b here or am I missing something? Just fired up RFJ and didn't have to do any of this. Using MAME 0.94 :?

35 and some change. Some of that was after the tournament to make a replay (I still need to get that up...) as well as just letting the game sit in attract while I was doing other stuff on my computer.

Give me an hour amount to play this week.

So estimated actual playtime?

I spent an hour in-between work shifts and about 3 hours after midnight, before bed, for about 6 days. Spent my day off on scanlation projects.
(So about 24hrs total, perhaps, not including time posting strats on the forum and encoding various replays. Chop off about 2hrs for that.)

Considering the fact that your score is 700k higher than mine, if it's anything less than 24hrs total, I rest my case.

Maybe around 30hrs. I'll play 15 this week.
