No, actually GG Aleste & Power Strike II for Game Gear are not the same. GG Aleste uses a more traditional Aleste type ship, while PSII for Game Gear has a ship more like MUSHA & Robo-Aleste (not really a mech, but similar in shape & feel). In terms of game quality they're fairly equal. There's quite a split as to whether fans prefer one or the other. Personally, I'm more of a PSII fan than GG Aleste, though that could be the fact that it was one o fthe first shmups I successfully 1CC'd via emulation & had a blast with it.Ceph wrote:I had no idea GG Aleste was rare. Which is the rarest commercially sold shmup video game?

I just recently became aware of this game. Is it any good?Iron Clad for the NGCD
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
I think it's a pretty solid horizontal shooter gameplay-wise and I enjoy it. Not the best shooter on Neo Geo, but good none the less. Graphics and music are nicely done, too.Strider77 wrote:I just recently became aware of this game. Is it any good?Iron Clad for the NGCD
Kiken made a Neo Geo Shooting Special video a while ago which also contains footage from Iron Clad Brikinger. Don't know if the video file is still available, though.
The Neo Geo Shooting Special is permanently housed on Archive.org.Ceph wrote:Kiken made a Neo Geo Shooting Special video a while ago which also contains footage from Iron Clad Brikinger. Don't know if the video file is still available, though.
(please note, the link to D/L the file is one the left marked as Cinepak)
I'm pretty sure SOME shmups were made on cart for the c64, and the c64GS takes c64 cars, and a long as the game doesn't requirte any keyboard keys beyong the function keys they will work.Ceph wrote:No shmups were made for C64GS.visuatrox wrote: If anyone actually managed to release a shmup for the C64GS (yes the console system), then it must have been made in a small amount of copies
Yes, for instance Space Invaders which I have somewhere, but none specifically for C64GS.zaphod wrote:I'm pretty sure SOME shmups were made on cart for the c64, and the c64GS takes c64 cars, and a long as the game doesn't requirte any keyboard keys beyong the function keys they will work.Ceph wrote:No shmups were made for C64GS.visuatrox wrote: If anyone actually managed to release a shmup for the C64GS (yes the console system), then it must have been made in a small amount of copies
The shameful thing is that I have misplaced or lost my Brikinger Iron Clad CD. I still have the case, but I've been looking for the CD for years
. Hopefully its just the result of lazy swapping of CDs into available cases.
I sold my Blazing Star AES to the Chairman of NeoEmpire for the going rate and bought a £10 MVS replacement. Which makes sense, but I do miss that sexy cover.
I have Magical Chase PCE. Not sure of current value.
Its difficult to get Eartbound SNES carts here in the UK

Magical Chase GB (~Minarai Mahou Tsukai Kenja no Tani e~)
The technically impressive Game Boy Color remake of the much less rare PCE classic.
I wonder how many people here own a copy?
It's a pretty hard game to find, but it's not more expensive than the PCE original. Two friends of mine have it, and I saw it in Japan for about 60 Euros, which isn't too bad. I mean, why would you want the shitty GBC version anyway, other than as a collectible?
TurboGrafx-16 version of Magical Chase is definitely one of the big rare shooters though. Complete copy will run you abou 500 Euros!

Regarding Space Manbow, it's a rare game to get, but I don't think it's THAT expensive. I doubly it gets up to US$ 100. I guess there aren't many diehard MSX collectors out there.
I remember a friend of mine bought it, complete set, a couple of years ago, for something around US$ 70 if I remember correctly.
Not cheap, but not close to US$ 300 madness.

Insanely priced at 200+ b/c it includes a CD with it's lack luster music on it. I like and own the game but it's a stupid price for a crappy CD.What about the Border Down LE?

Mine Storm II for Vectrex goes for an exorbitant amount of money. It's an asteroids style shooter. Although the first game is built in to the system, and 2 isn't really any different, it does have a bugfix that keeps the game from crashing at level 13.
As though anyone can get to level 13 in that game.

Good for you, I guess, and welcome to the forum.Sachiel wrote:I know it's not terribly rare, but I got a sealed copy of Ikaruga for the GCN off of ebay for $20. Atari stickers and all included.

However, Ikaruga for GC certainly doesn't qualify. Even Ikaruga for DC isn't very rare.
This topic is about the kind of console shooters that command very high prices and/or are very hard to find.
No, GG Aleste apparently didn't get any release outside Japan. Power Strike II = GG Aleste II.Ceph wrote:I had no idea GG Aleste was rare. It's the same game as Power Strike II for Game Gear, right?
And yes, it's rare. GG Aleste II seems a better game, though, and is cheaper (talking $60 on eBay vs. $100+, at least for some seller asking rates).
I saw a complete Recca on ye 'Bay months ago. I think it went for $300 or some such. Woulda plunked down for it had had I the cash.Icarus wrote:Recca probably is the rarest, at least for the complete package. You don't see it on eBay often (if at all),
Yes I do remember that COMPLETE Recca…Ed Oscuro wrote:I saw a complete Recca on ye 'Bay months ago. I think it went for $300 or some such. I was in the bidding for that but then it exceeded the price I was willing to pay and I promptly bought the near complete Recca (sans instruction manual) from the same bloke for…$200

It stands as the most I have paid for a game…and I enjoy it very much and was worth the price I pay
