From the single screenshot I've seen of III it looks leagues better then both the others. I guess I'll have to see it in motion before a decision, but...

Looking closely at the pictures in this months Arcadia, it graphically looks inferior to Under Defeat, Border Down, and Senko. It actually looks pretty bad, I'm going to have to say. Maybe I'll warm up to it.

Well, I certainly don't care for the whole "cutesy anime characters" type of thing, nor am I the biggest fan of verts, and since that's what this thing's looking at, I have to admit to at least a modicum of disappointment. That being said, I've always believed that gameplay is the biggest factor, so I'm definitely keeping an open mind. It *is* GRev, after all. They've proven to be quite trustworthy, and even if this game isn't all that great, they've earned a free pass.

It's kind of like Pixar movies with me: they've had so many good ones in a row, that I'm willing to forgive the crappiness that was "Cars."

There's a substantial amount of info (4 pages) in this months issue. I'll take a stab at it later... going to go read a bit on the can. I did pick out one blurb that states the game will scroll in different directions (sideways, diagonal).

EDIT:
Okay, back from the shitter.
I read about half of it. Here's the highlights.

Galchi (or garuti or whatever) consists of old Raiden & Raiden Fighters developers. The three interviewees are G.Rev's Marumaya, and Chatani and Saitou from Galchi. Note that Saito worked at not only Seibu Kaihatsu, but also Moss. Kind of sad since Raiden III looks so lame compared to the rest of them.

The game will be "wafuu" of sorts. As you can tell from he illustrations the characters are wearing kimonos. However, one of the taglines taken from the interview is "Wa that doesn't adhere to Wa". (Wa means Japanese [style] in this sense).

At first glance it seemed it would be free-roaming, but that's not the case. There are different paths, and different stages/paths will scroll different ways (diagonal, sideways, etc.). The screen is TATE for those that haven't seen the screenshots.

The game will be playable at the AM show, and they will have a location test coming up.

Chatani (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was a freelance programmer from 1999 until he formed Galchi (w/ Saitou) in 2006. It doesn't specifically state their connection w/ G.Rev but the whole product started when Chatani emailed G.Rev to tell them they started a company. Not strange for competitors to send flowers on anniversaries and shit, so maybe it was something like that.

I don't think arcade shooter developers see each other as competitors as much as champions of the same cause.

Treasure helped G.rev get started by offering a collaboration, so I imagine G.rev is balancing out their karma by doing the same for another company now that they have the opportunity.

It's still all business. Everyone got paid. They just gave them the opportunity. It's a closed-knit community though. The G.Rev guys asked Chatani if he knew what happened to Saitou, to which Chatani replied, "He's our head of development" or something like that. I'm pretty sure they knew each other at some point.

OK let me get this straight, Saitou and Showichi Yano were behind the RF games series?

Did they also worked on the orginal Raiden series (I, II/DX, and what about Viper Phase I)?

Go Satou did all the music for just about all the Raiden shooters correct?

According to the little blurb about him, he worked on Raiden II, DX, and "many other shooting games".

Wait for incognescente to jump in here... he will no doubt give you a time line of everyone that worked for Seibu Kaihatsu.

There goes my hopes of a game with visuals like an updated RFJ.
The mahou shoujo loli in the pink kimono looks like the main character from Nanatsuiro Drops.
I'd still play it, though, if it turns out to be the kind of awesome Moss could only dream of.
