The 411 on the mysterious Taiwan version Batrider PCB...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

There's another thread mentioning about the existence of the rare and "holy grail" of Batrider PCBs that has all-English text for the main title and all-English text for the characters' ending stories -- good luck finding that rare & peculair Taiwan version Batrider PCB -- this is the one Batrider PCB that everyone wants ROM dumped (assuming that it can be located, purchased {and finally dumped} and isn't just a fabled rumor at the moment)..... ^_~

The 411 on a Korean version Batsugun PCB...is a bootleg!

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I do have a bootlegged Batsugun PCB that says "For Korea Only" on the copyright screen but it still has the original Japanese script for the ending credits -- WTF!? Yes, bootlegs of Batsugun do exist -- do not waste your hard-earned $$$ and buy one. Can't stress that issue enough..... ^_~

Can't say for a genuine Toaplan produced Batsugun PCB with Korea country version copyright though...anyone want to add their two cents? ^_~

--------------------------------
A "real" Toaplan produced Batsugun PCB will have the Toaplan signage printed directly on the PCB itself & "Made In Japan" statement as well -- bootlegs will not display those discerning marks at all. If no genuine marks are found, then it would safe to assume that particular Korean version Batsugun PCB you're "eyeing on" will be a boot to begin with...easy as pie. ^_~
--------------------------------

I was told by a South Korean PCB seller that some of the Korean arcade PCBs (i.e. -- Korean version Batsugun PCB, etc.) were made without the official developer's name on it and sold to arcade distros in South Korea as is...hmmm, raises some interesting questions as to it's legality or not. The majority of shmuppers will say that bootlegs of some famous arcade shmup titles (such as Batsugun) do exist and it's buyer beware. Just purchase a genuine Japanese country version of Batsugun PCB and you'll be quite content & happy knowing that you have the real thing and not a "bootleg" PCB in the first place..... ^_~

Batsugun (like most later Toaplan games) has its region defined via jumpers on the PCB, not by the data in the ROMs. Any PCB can be made into any region just by changing the jumpers.

Batrider and the other Raizing M68K-based games are really easy to region hack, but the procedure for doing so is left as an exercise for the reader--I'd probably get excommunicated by the MAME developers if I spread exact instructions for making fake ROMs around the web (although Final Burn Alpha, which is developed by a MAME contributor, implements a region switch for these games...)

I researched this when I came across the auction since it was very interesting. I have the JP PCB but just wanted to know what this one was about.

It definitely looks legit and from my research it looks like Toaplan did infact license the game to both Taito and Unite Trading in Korea.

Unfortunately the PCB in the auction is WAY worse quality than the JP one so who knows what bugs it might have. I wouldn't worry about it being a bootleg though as I had one in the past (Fuck you Cosmicco) and it looked entirely different with socketted CPUs and no Toaplan stickers.

The Batsugun on eBay is not a bootleg. It is an official Toaplan
release with Toaplan chips which has been manufactured in
Korea. This was done for a lot of games. I have seen this
done on IREM games as well as Data East.

If you want to change your language on your Batsugun
all you have to do is change the region block.
