Legendary PCB's!

Post by undamned »

Ok, so what are the legendary PCB's you have or want? The qualifier for legendary is:

Never mass produced and/or prototype only.

HAVE:
Taito F3 Landmaker (World ver.) Prototype
I'm told this is the one that was dumped for MAME :D The motherboard is pretty much a standard F3 motherboard for running F3 carts (no plastic frame/fan, though), but the top cart PCB is much different than the internals of a standard F3 cart.

WANT:
Taito F3 Recal Horn:
Don't know anything about the original hardware, but looking at the emu romset, it doesn't look too dissimilar from some of the earlier F3 carts, so reprogramming a standard F3 cart romset may be possible to get it running on real hardware.

Taito F3 R-Gear:
Said to have began on Taito F3 hardware and then moved to Sony's ZN-x hardware as a 3D variant (read RayStorm). More here:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=9928

Cave DoDonpachi Campaign Ver.:
You know the drill.

SUSHI BAR!!!!!

I thought I was the only man on the whole internet that gave a damn. This belongs in the "it made me smile" thread.

Awesome!

What is not awesome is that Sushi Bar never came out. Frowny face.

Was Ghostlop an unreleased prototype? That would be cool to have, I think - the game's one of my favorite puzzlers either way.

Yes. I have one that a friend cobbled together from roms and spare parts.

It's one of my favorite puzzlers too :)

Awesome PCB (under the original name of 'Air Buster') in it's own right and the PCE Hu-Card version is stellar as well... ^_~

NEC changed the name to "Aero Blasters" to avoid copyrighted name infringement when the Sega Genesis game of "Air Buster" was released in the USA -- same game but just different game titles for the two respected gaming platforms..... ^_~

I used to have an Air Buster PCB :D I don't think they were limited, so you shouldn't have too hard of a time finding one...

The holy grail of Batrider PCBs -- Taiwan version?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Does the Taiwan version of Armed Police Batrider actually exist or is it a just a myth? There have been reports of sighting of such mythical Taiwan ver. Batrider PCB in the past and such a person was close to buying it in hopes of finally dumping it for the shmup community to reap the benefits from it. But it vanished again to be lost again....

Supposedly, such a Taiwan ver. Batrider PCB is known to have all-English text for the main title screen and all-English text for the ending stories for the characters chosen at the beginning of the game...

And yes, Cave will no doubt not be releasing it's very valuable Dodonpachi Special Campaign Version PCB property anytime soon. "We all can wish upon the first bright star we see tonight" but it ain't gonna happen in our lifetime, folks, unless.....we plan an armed raid and steal it with guns erupting in a 'blaze of glory' -- anybody up for it? So be it..... ^_~

I think CIT bought a Taiwanese APB recently off ebay. It wasn't too expensive either.

I guess the rarest PCB I have is Ibara Black Label, but that's not too rare (yet). I'd love that Atomiswave Sushi bar game, and of course any of the special Mushihime-sama and Mushihime-sama Futari PCBs Cave had at the Cave festival last year. :D I could care less about DDP Campaign though.

Oy, thanks for the hint, mate! So, that's why it is so hard to find anything about a 'Aero Blasters' PCB. :D Thank you a lot!

For eight,

Thanks for the kudos -- am feeling all warm & fuzzy right now. And good luck on finding an Air Buster PCB, it's well worth playing it for old time's sake.

Ah yes, I have wonderful memories of playing Air Buster in the arcades back in the early 1990's -- what a legendary arcade shmup PCB title in it's own right..... ^_~

I've seen Air Buster in arcades around here before, so I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to find...

Yip, I recently bought it. :) I didn't get it off Ebay though (probably would've gotten more expensive that way), but bought it directly from an internet acquaintance.

I'd like to have the first edition of the Gradius PCB, which used "bubble memory", which was a deep technological dead-end. It was unreliable, and needed warmup to operate (this is why you get the notorious countdown from 99 down to 1 at boot time).

Fragile PCBs are cute

Fork up close to $1000 and you can have one. They show up on YJ from time to time, and I saw one in Akiba not long ago.

The 99-0 countdown is on the Gradius Deluxe Pack as well. ^^

Luckily you can just skip it.

I'm surprised working Bubble System PCBs even exist anymore. Those things are super-sensitive to electromagnetism and static - putting them inside a cab, with the monitor, loudspeakers and whatnot, is just about the worst place for it to be. Which is also why the technology was replaced immediately.

If you want a non functional one just as an icon to hang on your wall, I've seen them on the cheap. Let me know and I'll keep an eye out for one for ya :D

- Mushihimesama Futari Ver. 1.01 (Cave)
- Mushihimesama Futari Ver. 1.51 (Cave)
Is there really that much of a difference between the two?

As for the Taiwan Batrider...I've heard that it's on par with the Jap B revision- only with english. If that's the case- I'd damn near pay to have that dumped if I could swap that rom out on that korean stuffs :P

You probably only need to send the socketed rom chip(s) to get dumped, not the board, so no fear of damage or huge shipping charges...
