I commend Cave for trying this. Some run n gun action wouldn't go a miss either

Only problem is if there is a language issue, since the play mechanics are changing, maybe there are some prompts in the game, heaven forbid.

In that french Shmup documentary, when he was interviewed.

AWESOME. And it does look like it. No bullets. Three blocks are a sorry excuse for a lifebar, though.
I was searching for that name in the back of my mind, but you beat me to it. The screen comparison Radiant posted is pretty depressing, too - nothing against horis, and I can even accept those ZUN lolis to some extend, but if there is one thing I always hated in shmups, it´s witches flying on broomsticks. That´s cheesy AND generic.

EDIT: I can´t see if those player sprites actually ride a broomstick, but, the whole setup - meh. Not that I would ever be able to play this game anyways...

This game does scream generic. Heck, one of the characters is named Casper!

Man, I would take totally original space ships over super generic witches with invisible broomsticks any day too.

Spaceships = awesome, Witches on broomstick = super lame. Spaceships are what defined this genre, unlike stupid wiccas.

And to quote the AVGN, "They should have called this game BOO! HAUNTED HOUSE!". (Not to say I don´t like gothic themes in general; some grim setting like Ibara would be great any time, but pumpkins and graveyards...)

And just trying something new isn´t something that deserves applause. Trying something new AND MAKING IT GOOD is better than just sticking to the same old stuff and making it work, but just something new for the heck of it isn´t automatically beneficial. Look at the games for Wii and the DS: In some cases it´s awesome, but in other cases it´s just annoying and gimmicky.

I love the internet... where everyone can brandish something a turd by looking at three pictures taken from a magazine (with a fucking camera).

I definitely agree with you to the point I felt necessary to quote you. Guys, please, try to spare your judgement for the time we coul'd see at least some images in motion; the 90% of the comment on this thread is, IMHO, pointless and useless.

It's ok that we make comments on the images we have (first impressions) but we don't have any reason to give a final judgement .by now.

Yeah, look at all the negative comments MM Pork got... it's golden. I'm even tempted to shell out big bucks for the PCB, and I'm not a Yagawa medal player, in the least.

On Topic: I was never a big fan of Horis. The self scrolling aspect is kind of off putting too. Halloween is kind of a dumb holiday.

But the good news is: If it's received unfavorably, then the price of the PCB will go down.

ESP hearts = "bars" (like strider "bars"). We don't know if the are more than one hit per bar, I guess.

I think they actually say that it looks forced scrolling from left to right but it could be player controlled.

The text is small, but I think they also say that those boxes and things at the top look like life/bomb stocks but might not be.

But yeah, I'm going to pick up a copy tomorrow too.

Yip, Arcadia is also only speculating (note the "?"). Nobody has confirmed yet whether it really lacks forced scrolling.

Inoue is "only" a graphics designer tho, not programmer.

Or were you just being sarcastic?

I remember reading in an interview that he'd like to do an action game and not a shooting game, and this looks to be just that.

The "chief designer" or "director" or point of influence of any game could be from just about any of the major development subcategories.

Am I the only one who thinks the graphics are incredible?

I've dreamed about graphics like that on a screen bigger than 4".

Well you only notice it if you stare at it for like 5 minutes.

Nobody focuses on that stuff when they're playing lol
