Posting this now so my team have three on the board.

Icarus - namakoteam - 4,851,370 - Stage 5 - (Napalm Type) - [MAME, Extend ON, AUTO 3]

Been at work all day, a 10hr shift.
I have the next 7hrs free before I get ready for work tomorrow, and I intend to use them productively.
Team scorepost coming soon, as usual. My team may update their own scores individually after the consolidated post, just like last year.

To ensure our team has at least 3 scores, I'm going to post the scores of the only other two members of my team who've been playing TBY. Just in case they don't get on before the deadline.

joystickchris - Team Fremont - 1,234,540 - Stage 4 - MAME

Boric - Team Fremont - 1,952,120 - Stage 5 - MAME

I think that holding back scores until the end kind of hurts the competition a bit. It's like me running a race against a bunch of people that I can't see until anyone gets 5ft before the finish line. If I had been able to see them, surely I would have pushed myself just a -little- more harder. As I said in another thread, competition fuels improvement. But hey, what do I know. :) Maybe you guys can't handle the competition otherwise? ;) haha. Let me join in and hold back a score until the very end of the competition, surely people would learn not to like that.
Where's your score, then?
Put us to shame (and give me a good reason to stop playing, as I have a backlog of work to take care of).

I wish I could find a good '06 quote for this. Too lazy.

I agree that holding back scores hurt the competition, but sadly since there are no rules preventing players from doing it, I think it is better for every player to hide his score until the end for the simple reason that showing a high score too early could make the others work harder and beat it. I have no clue how a shmup tournament could be handled with this issue fixed and without stupid rules though.

(side note : I'm not hiding my score for this week since I'm not playing it)

This is exactly the reason why people should be encouraged (not discouraged) to post scores early !
If nobody posted scores, people would be lazy to play more and most scores would really suck at the end.

Same thing for tips...
People can be 100% selfish and don't reveal the smallest tip in the game.
But if people share, at least the most basic tips (some were shared in this topic), scores will all get higher : it increases competition. Isn't it for the best ? ;)

With no superplays, hi-score tables or strategy threads for this, not to mention a lot of people not having played this one, I think it needed people to post daily scores to give momentum and incentive to other players. Different with GigaWing or DDP with targets already apparent before the competition begins, but in this case it was definately a bonus. I would easily have given up at 2 million or maybe less if not for other people's higher scores.
Plus if you need to hide your score in the event that it may lead some others to push to better it, and they do so, then your score didn't/doesn't deserve it's place.

I disagree. Last time I posted a score early (on Blazing Star) Rob and Skyline jumped on it from a high height  . Had me playing at 9am the next morning to squeeze back past them.

So....

In the interests of my sleep pattern,

Namakoteam will sometimes post late in the playing week.

Rapid fire - you don't have to tap the shot button, just hold.
(in MAME, use a delay of "3")

This refers to the selectable rate of fire.

Since I play for fun and not to win (this would still hold true if I had a chance of winning... I swear!), I'm all for promoting more competition and egging people on to getting better. I don't mind sharing what little I find out about a game either.

But whatever, to each their own.

@ayuh: Don't worry, I didn't use auto-fire either.

Of course it's for the best, but since it's a competition and if you want to win (and you are supposed to do everything you can to win when in a competition), then it's too risky to give your score and infos away early because if the other top players don't and learn from what you say, they are more likely to beat you.

It's not about being selfish, I think it's the fault of the competition format and not the fault of the player. Doesn't about every team right now have their own private forum where they share information, instead of giving it away publicly on this forum ? Your high score is a piece of information as much as any secrets or scoring techniques you discovered in the game.

This is only natural. You can't ask players not to do whatever they can (but cheating) to win in a competition. So make rules that prevent them from doing what you don't want them to do or accept it.
