The grand shmups.com trivia challenge

Way back there was a running theme in threads where people would pose shmup-related questions and let other people answer their little quiz. The failing of this was that usually the first people to post got them all right and that was that. Well, I was just reading the insanely obscure information in the Life Force/Salamander thread and got to thinking.

SO, here's what I propose. Each forum member who wishes to participate needs to email me a list of five shmup-related questions. These MUST be shmup related. I will keep this going for the next few weeks, ending it somewhere around the first week of next month. Then I will compile all the questions into one massive quiz and email it back to everyone that would like one. I don't want to post it online before they can be graded because it will just degrade the overall scoring process. Secrecy is key here. Of course we could all cheat and use google, but that's exactly the point of letting each person make up their own questions. I seriously doubt that I could have googled all that Salamander info about the different ways the NES and FC differ in processing and how the names were changed.

So yes, each person who participates will get five right no matter what. It's up the question-makers then to make this thing so hardcore, so very far out there in shmupdom that only the most rabid fans will have a chance. Anything shmup releated is fair game, and I challenge everyone to make this THE definitive test for shmup fans. I want this to be the freaking SAT's of our genre. Make it second loop of DDPDOJ HARD!


All you have to do is come up five questions and their answers and email it to donpachi3@msn.com. Put it under the heading of SHMUP QUIZ. If you're lazy and only want the test without making up questions use the heading CREDIT FEED. Don't ask for it yet, I'll update this thread when the quiz is actually ready.

When the final quiz is made and ready I'll email it to you. People who don't feel like making up questions are welcome to participate, but I want to make this as big and challenging as possible, so we need as many participants as possible. When finished, you can email me back your answers and I'll score them all and post the results. I'd like to figure out some cool prizes, but we'll have to see how many perfect scores there are before that's decided. I know we can make this legendary if we all try.

I can post a few questions, but I won't bother to participate. I don't know anything about shmups except the ones I play, and I play very few.

My piece of advice, though, is not to make it too damn hard. I mean, even a simple question about a shmup you don't know anything about is difficult. There's no meaning with a shmup quiz that a fan can't get half right.

I tried to think some questions up too, but they were REALLY nitpicky ones...like "What weapon from Side Arms was dropped in the remix/sequel Side Arms 'Before Christ'"?

Some typical questions could be like, well y'know. The creator, where he's from? Yea, thats easy, but it can get more difficult.

Whats UFO's favorite shmup?
What does "Spamparoo" really mean?
Is Felix The Cat still alive?
Have Aliens from Mars really visited Shmups.com?

The most annoying member?
Which member has the biggest hair?
How many Shmupmeets actually took place?
What is a "ShmupBoy"?
etc!!!

Alright. Back on. I figured no one cared when it just sort of slid off the radar without more than a few hits. I think what I'll do though is just leave it open for a while without a deadline. That will give people some time to come up with whatever they want.

And I think it's a great idea to have site-related questions too, so Twitch, you should send some more my way.

And also, screw having only five per person. If you want to do 25 or even just 1 then go for it.
