I'll assume that was a joke since GIII is probably one of the best, GV and maybe Gaiden are both better I guess but GIII is hella good

LOL... no I was deadly serious. Visually it's nothing special, has loads of slow down and lame difficulty on both versions.

1 and 2 for their time were better and 5/gaiden are MUCH better games. Hell I like 4 over 3.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

"no matter how much you love somthing, someone else hates it".

Well maybe you didnt hate but anyway..

easiest way to start nitpicking flamewar would be start to argue over which gradius game is the best.

Let me begin :D
here's my list

1. Gradius 2
2. Gradius 3 Snes
3. Gradius V
4. Gradius
5. Gradius IV
6. Gradius Gaiden
7. Gradius III arcade (takes a piss)

Gradius galaxies excluded from the list (never played)

here, dogs.. meat ;)

Seems like this is fodder for another thread, but I'll go ahead anyway:

1. Gradius V
2. Gradius III Snes
3. Gradius Nes
4. Gradius IV
5. Gradius III Arcade

As these are all the gradius games I've played this is all I got.

2. Gradius II
3. Gradius IV
4. Gradius
5. Gradius III

Not that I don't like three, just not as much. They're all pretty damn amazing games, but Gaiden is FUCKING BRILLIANT.

I take it back, I like 3 the best b/c of the slowdown, odd difficulty, and lack luster graphx. It was one of the 1st super famicom releases so for that reason alone it stomps all over 5 and gaiden. 5/gaiden's graphx blow, hardly no slowdown and the difficulty is just plain foolish.... plus the music sux to.

3 all the way fo sure.

Have you tried playing it? Tried to 1 credit clear it? I've found, with this series in particular, that really giving the game a chance can completely change my mind. I hated Gradius IV, but after some more play, trying out the different weapons, and getting really fond of the music I have come to love it quite a bit. The same for all the others, too. The only Gradius I immediately liked was the original.

yes, and I saw no point after a bit considering there were better looking, sounding, and playing ones out in the series.

My list:

1. Gaiden
2. V
3. I
4. III SNES
5. IV
6. II
7. III

Speaking of other ports... I don't really want to include Galaxies in my list either - I love this series, but I'm honestly not a fan of that one!
I also got the MSX Saturn pack primarily for all the Gradius and Salamnder games, very inetersting to play them all but the juddery scrolling kills them for me.
PCE I and II are very very nice though, with their extra lavels...
I've not played Nemesis '90 yet, unfortunately!

Yeah, I felt the exact same way. When I returned later, I was just absorbed by something, and I really can't place it. Something about it just feels so... Gradius, you know what I mean? It's THAT feeling, that gradius-ness, I find so lacking in Gradius V. And, I guess it's that feeling that makes me love the whole series so damn much (even if they did put bullets on the bottom layer :P )

kengou wrote:I've been playing Gradius III on SNES (Wii virtual console actually, basically same thing) and it's awesome (1-lifed it to the last level once on easy...) but just today I tried Gradius III on MAME, and it was really different. I have to say I still like the SNES version a lot better. The graphics seem better, and I like the level design more. Also, you have to tap the fire button in the arcade version whereas in the SNES version you can just hold the button.
hmm fingers going numb with button tapping ;)
