Game Tengoku/Paradise..is there any depth to this game?

Post by tehkao »

Does anyone have any comments? Does this Saturn shmup have any real "depth", or is it just REALLY NICE eye candy that you'd lose interest in quickly?

BTW that Space Invaders stage really kicks ass.

I dunno, I find the 1st game, on Saturn, to be really cool. The level design is cool, and it doesn't feel like Harmful Park at all (A weird game with no design at all, which sells just because it's weird). Solely as a shmup, the game is very, very solid, and you probably won't regret on get it.

Now, Game Tengoku 2 (on PSX) kind of blows it.

You need to chain the aubergines, if yo take them in one second (from one aubergine to the other), their value will increase.Once you get to 7k and 10k points aubergines, the next ones will be worth 46,530 points. If you make explode the larger aubergines, you will get 6 of them. In case you've maxed out the value (46,530 points), you an get 46,530*6 points from one exploding aubergine. The problem is that the game is pretty slow and in some points doing this tricky is incredibly difficult, they didn't optimize too much the routes. Also, there's one ship worth of notice, the Z-Dyne.

There is a lot of scoring depth to the game, and the difficulty is quite nice. Also, the extras are abundant, and the game has massive amounts of replay.

Graphics are superb, the music is catchy beyond reason, and the sound effects are nice and crisp.

My only complaint is, like Rando said, Z-Dyne MK II is way more powerful than the other ships.

Hmm, I ought to try Z-Dyne then... I kept using Pig because I thought it was more powerful :\

great game. the score attack round is big fun, although i cannot get anywhere. i'll have to keep that in mind about the Z-Dyne, i am a sucker for weird ships so i tended to play as the pig or the ugly little girl sprite.
I have no sig whatsoever.
