MAME savestate problem

Post by Arvandor »

I didn't think I'd want to use savestates, until I started having to watch that legal stuff every time I fired up Dodonpachi. Also if I got restartitis, I'd have to suicide until game over, because even that is faster than waiting for the text to scroll by. Anyways, it occured to me I could probably circumvent this problem with savestates, but when I try to save it complains about some unkown timer or something. Why won't it work? Anyone know?

Not all drivers (games) in MAME support savestates. In fact, the majority don't.

Huh, I coulda sworn Dodonpachi did... As I seem to remember hearing about someone doing a savestate run. Maybe I'm just going insane, or remembering a different game. Either are strong possibilities ^_^

Maybe it was just removed for whatever reason between versions?

This is frustrating me too.

In new MAME versions in some games save states doesn't work. For DoDonPachi I use version 99, try it. I didn't check newest versions 117 or 118. When you have problems with save states try to use older/newer MAME versions.

Yeah, that anonymous timer shit is weird, wasn't always like that. I use F3 to reset DDP and then F10 to speed up the legal stuff.

I think F10 is the throttle, use F8 to reach the frameskip 10 (get faster, maybe needs F10 after with some versions).

And yeah, with wolfmame 0.99, you can use savestates on DDP.

F10 works great. Exactly what I needed ^_^ Now when I do something extraordinarily stupid, I can just F3, F10, and start up a new game.

if you put frameskip at the maximu and then turn-on the throttle, you cant get some ridiculous speeds.

It's very useful sometimes.
