Question about Battle Garegga's "Red Ball" mode

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I'm picking this up for Saturn(I actually had this on Saturn until just recently...got rid of it..then started to really get into it on MAME...stupid, huh?).

Anyway, what's this "red ball" option I hear about? I have read that if you push "R", it will take you to a second menu. I had no idea! Does it make those freaking slim grey missles red, or just other bullets? Enlighten me.

I couldn't get into red ball mode the one time I try it but the concept is to make bullets easy to see. It is not "do it" for me so I went back to default. I think the game play better for me with regular bullets - it is add to the feel I get when enjoying Battle Garegga.

Yes it is true that pressing 'R' you can access extra options which include:

Bonus ships (from Mahou?)
Red ball bullets
Stage edit

and my favorite - easy menu - this make the options menu all in english since I am not know how to read Japanese

Enjoy Battle Garegga on your Sega Saturn - I sure am!

Thanks for the reply.

Main thing I would like to know is: does it make those little silver bullets red, or just the "ball" bullets, which are already orange?

It turns the slim grey bullets into little red/orange balls. I actually prefer it on default, which kind of shocked me. Red ball mode just didn't do it for me.

Be warned that anything besides the normal grey bullets are not changed. The medium size bullets stay medium size bullets, which can be quite a bit disorienting when you get so primed for recognizing the orange ball. That's why I always use default bullets myself to keep focused.

Icarus made a guide on all this awhile back; search it out.

Thanks very much for the responses. I'm pretty psyched to try that out, being that is the ONE thing that bothers me about Garegga.

I always get spastic movements when things like this are mentioned.
Games get a bad name because of ridiculous set ups.
But I know it's hard for you guys outside of Europe.

No, RGB nazi.
Seriously though, I was and still am blown away by these complaints. In fact I hate the fact that you guys in the US and Japan don't have RGB that widely available. I've offered to export RGB tv sets, but nobody was ever interested. :x

Hmm...I dunno, I don't see how any monitor could really help THAT much. I mean, the bullets are grey...that's just hard to see in this game. Well, to each his own.

it actually makes a world of difference.

seeing the bullets is just down to a little training, if you spend a few hours with the game youll have no problem seeing them.
once you do you wont want to switch to redball because it disguises the direction and hitbox of the proectile...
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

+1 for rgb monitor.

I used to think "those guys" were full of it too. After using a 29" rgb monitor I'd much, much rather dodge crisp grey garegga bullets than blurry pink/blue ibara bullets.

Technically it's an input and not a monitor Image

Component is the best I have though, and it looks way better than anything else for fine details. It doesn't have the perfect black level, though.
so long and tanks for all the spacefish

<Megalixir> now that i know garegga is faggot central i can disregard it entirely

The best hookup I know for Saturn is S-Video. Is there a component cable(made by fans, i'm guessing)?

Sure would be nice. I'd be more than willing to buy these if there is someone out there who can make them. When will the USA get with it and start including RGB connections on TVs?

best hookup for saturn is rgb; there are production SCART cables available, or you can just tap it off the video out din at the back of the saturn.

saturn video out doesn't do component.
