MAME replay errors?

Post by -Bridget- »

Ok, wondering if anyone else has seen this particular problem before....

So, I'll often create INP files when I make a run in any shmup; That way, if I get a real good one, I have it recorded, and otherwise, I can have a look at what I did, look for mistakes, places to improve, stuff like that.

Well, I just did one for Strikers II. I got to the 5th stage in that one. Wasnt the best run..... I was gonna watch it after to see what I did wrong. Died in the 4th stage, and then blew up on the 5th boss.

BUT.

When I go to watch the replay......

I see my plane promptly smack into something during the 2nd boss fight.

Oh, everything PRIOR to that was correct.....

Suffice it to say, the replay didnt GET to the 5th stage......

Anyone else had this problem?

If so, what is the cause?

Or is this perhaps just a mistake of some sort on my part?

It's those 'random' bits in games that arf up inp files. The simple fix to the issue is to delete the rom's associate cfg file and (if it has one) hi file before you record an inp, and also before you attempt to view that inp.

Could be the nvram. Try deleting that and see if it plays back right.

That's probably the case. I know that ZSNES movies won't play back correctly unless you use ONLY the ZMV and not any of the other files the recording process spits out (usually the associated folder in the movies folder).

Normally all the stuff needed to reconstruct the exact same game is saved in the inp file. The only error I had recording an inp was when I minimized and maximized my game a few times during recording.

Some emulators will rarely properly playback an inp they recorded (kind never got a game recorded right with MAME32 for instance).

I know wolfmameplus 99 should be used to record Cave games, I don't know which one is best for Strikers 2.

Wolfmameplus 106.... it never failed at me with replays except ST-V games (because they tend to de-sync randomly)

Ah, so there is a cause that makes some sense.

Didnt know about all that, no.....

I am in fact using Mame32, version .90, and so far, it's not messed up any replays whatsoever.

This was the first one it screwed up; and it only happened that once. I did another one of Strikers 2 later, and it worked perfectly. Havent had any trouble with any of Cave's games (of which I have many on here) either.

Thanks for all the info, though; I'll keep that in mind for when it inevitably does that again.

Problems can be:
1. NVRAM. Check Nvram folder before record and playback inp. This folder must be empty.
2. MEMCARD. Thes same as nvram.
3. hiscores.dat file. Don't use it.

I persnally deleted NVRAM and MEMCARD folders and create NVRAM and MEMCARD files instead and then I don;t must check these folders because these don't exist.
