In the hour I've put into RFJ I have to agree that it's easier to just move on to other things. The number of ships and the large number of scoring secrets make it easier to just go back to playing DDP.

I enjoy the Raiden Fighters games a lot more than DDP, but I think they also have some issues that DDP doesn't. For example, I have trouble seeing the yellow bullets on the fast-scrolling levels like the train in RF2, or the cloud level in Jet. And, the game seems like it's really made to be played with the slave or fairy (at least 2 and Jet). Then, some of those later boss' shot patterns are both so rapid and dense that you pretty much need to know where to be when they start firing. I'm not exactly an ace at these though, so lemme know if I'm wrong.

I played Raiden for awhile when I first got into shmups (being a classic and all), but I didn't like it that much, so I ignored the entire Raiden series ever since. I just started playing RFJ the other day because of this thread, and so far I'm blown away. It seems way more exciting than DDP, but I haven't checked the score board yet. Maybe I'll start to hate it if/when I start researching scoring secrets, but for now, ignorance is bliss.

It'll suck if RFJ wins the vote in this year's STGT, since I probably won't have time to compete that week. If Raiden wins, I'll have dodged a bullet (ba-dum dum CHHH!).

Thankfully scoring is totally fun.

There are a number of Dangunesque parts where you need to destroy a number of medium-sized enemies as soon as they appear. You can also stay in their cease-fire zone to string them for a simultaneous destruction bonus.

Sadly, we live in a world where that word is seldom used (or applicable).

With how fond you seem of that game I'm surprised that you haven't submitted a single score for Parsec 47.

Don't have it installed and not interested at the moment. Or in the near future.

I'm more interested in beating my "getting to stage 5" record for Dangun.

Makes sense. I like it more because I can use my main shot and secondary weapon at the same time. And I'm much better at it.
