They actually have a Muchi-Muchi Pork set up in an Egret II for people to play. That's too awesome.

Wow, check out that girl in the second (or third) picture down. I would be watching her, not the guy playing the game.

you knew that french are sometimes nuts  (example, it was said here, they had the very first mushihime futari kits), and this event proves that united efforts make big party, your otakon or california extreme would be so huge with many shmuppers efforts ! dare !!

they had even senko no ronde in versus city setup, progear, mars matrix,.... plasma setup with ikaruga/gigawing2/border down dc, ... and support of a cute girl cosplayed Ibara as you saw

It looks like it´s been a fantastic event there, and a pretty crowded one too. :)

Good to see these things are still possible in Europe on this scale as well these days, and that it actually draws many people in.
Is this an annually returning event btw? If so it might be worth the small trip from the Netherlands ( just about a 5 hour drive from my home I think) next year. :P

yes it's an annual event, first week of july. JAPAN EXPO. the second time they joined, you cant imagine the crowd outside of the place  and people said that the versuscit-ies had hours of people waiting to play...

i'm just sorry of the lack of international communication. i thought they had done it. if there had been a thread before here, sure some europeans would have come, as italians too are nuts about shmups and london is just few hours with eurotunnel (and it's a 3 days event). i'm pretty far from this too (8hrs near spain), let's hope next event they will do some publicity here and europeans shmuppers join (it's nearly a cave masturi #2  , not about shmup studios, but some japan stars were here : ex-xjapan yoshiki, sakaguchi, kamimura, ..)

there has been too some old goldies shmups

Hi !
Actually I was the one who set up these little videogames stands (with the help of the above-mentionned associations/forums),
Thanks for the positive feedback, I'll let you know if it happens again next year (and I'm pretty sure it will).

Japan-Expo is an event taking place each year. From a few hundreds people 8 years ago, this year there were 70000+ visitors.

Japan-Expo works with different associations to propose animations, related to certain aspects of japanese culture.

Last year, while working like every year on the rythm-games part, we (me and Radigo from www.shmup.com) suggested a "shmups" stand to the J.E. staff, more like a one-time experience.
This was a huge success, because of the various types of games proposed (old/new/console/arcade...).
We did it once more this year, with more people and games, a nice Ibara cosplay, and more happy visitors ! Now I think there is a place for arcade games in japan-style conventions (the AAFDP association does it many times a year in France, and they're good at it), but it takes a lot of time and logistics to make things work.

Next year in Japan-Expo, there are 95% chances that there will be again something like that, and maybe before that also, but it's not decided yet.

Not unless ca$h becomes available.

But we can provide a setting for the players only, not the visiting public  .

I knew about Japan Expo but wouldn't have thought there will be as much fun hardware ! Next time I'll try to go for sure. I don't like anime conventions because of the narutards/loud fans everywhere, but some massive shooting oportunity like this shouldn't not be missed :D.

By the way I am french so I am really ashamed to not have been there  :(

Crap, no Starcraft tournament xD I went to a similar event recently in Paris (ESWC). It was really really great to watch warcraft III / Quake IV / CS matches. There were a couple of arcade games displayed and playable there, but only a few really old shmups...

I guess it'd be the same in this event in Toulouse.. You never know though. I'll ask on the french forum if anyone's going there and if they heard of any plans to display shmups.

I was here for this event, there was a shmupper from Finland (who didn't come only for this). I hope there will be a lot of shmuppers from diferent countries for the next time.

That is awesome stuff there. I like the cabs.

Those old TV's bring back memories.
