Good arcade games. With no military theme. Like Forgotten Worlds or Xexex.

OT: Why do I get the feeling that the upcoming tournament is going to be very side-scroller oriented? (Probably something to do with Konami week and 2nd place week.) Blah, I almost never play side-scrollers and hence am even worse at them. Still some of my all-time favorites.

It's a word used to describe a made up genre of shooting games with unique mechanics (usually attributed to the avatars movement). Let's finish Psikyo vs. Cave before we go into this again.

Lifeforce (AC: JPN)

... outside '88- '94 ( '87) and an alternating hori/ vert; so might not qualify... though I prefer the version in the Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus: It has a 'no-wait' option with no slowdown...

Just UN Squadron/Area88 and the sequel Carrier Air Wing/U.S. Navy, but these are both militairy themed.
Then there are several Darius's and R-types (and X-multiply).
This is why I do not like horizontals at all. imho Progear is the only decent hori ever created. I mean Parodius/gradius games really don't get me all that exited. Name the best hori's ever? Surely I can't imagine anyone who would think any other game than Progear should be at the top!

I can think of many but why bother? The only decent one?

And no military shooters. Graphics and atmosphere are the key components for this thread, besides it being a good game in addition to that. The only military shooters I ever need are the Strikers.

Tried out a lot of games in this thread over the last few days and have to say this seems like one of the better ones. If you like Gate of Thunder or similar 16-bit types of games you should check it out.
